    OEM horn cover replacement

I have replaced so many horns seemingly each year and now I'm out of wire without taking down the cabin ceiling carpet. So now this is my simple, reliable, equally loud and, most importantly, reliable horn. I love it.

    Auto Pilot

FWIW, I went with a Garmin auto pilot. Not that I think they are the best auto pilot. But all else on my boat is garmin and I have run into problems with things as seemingly simple as a Standard Horizon NMEA2000 radio not talking to the Garmin network. Didn't want similar problems with a more...

    Any 248/258 with single 300 hp ?

I had a 258 many years ago. Repowered with a Yamaha F300. Was doing the Great Loop at the time, so dealer recommended 15.25" x 19 pitch prop since we were doing a lot of mid-range cruising. I thought the combination was great. Hole shot was good. Mid range was great. Top end was only about 44...

258 Journey vs 228 Seafarer, for the windy west coast?

Short story: We were set to sea trial a 228 many years ago. The dealer just happened to also bring along a 258. We stayed 'inside' and there was a 1'-1.5' wind chop. The 258 rode significantly better. I still preferred the transom of the 228. My wife preferred the ride of the 258 and that's what...

Bought the 258, which engines for upgrade?

We owned a 258 for ten years. Had a Yamaha F250 (3.3L?) for the first five years. Put 1300 hours on it. Then put on the newer F300 for the next five years. Another 1200 hours and that engine was flawless. More importantly, it had more mid-range power. I never felt the need for more power even...

    Waste pump out

When we did the Great Loop, most marina pump-outs had a collection of various sized threaded nozzles, as does my Safe Harbor home marina. As I recall, most attendants took one look at our boat and grabbed the correct size nozzle. And I would assume that the very knowledgeable Seasick is correct...

Boat Trip: Clarksville, TN to Huntsville, AL. Trip Complete!

Boat made it home. Time to unload a lot of stuff. Which mostly filled a three-row Honda Pilot with the second and third rows folded down. We were prepared to spend each night on the boat, assuming something in our planning wouldn't go according to plan. But that never happened. A first time for...

    Magnetic Cushions?

The 2007 Sailfish and other Grady's around that era use a magnet to hold the cabin door open. I haven't paid any particular attention to mine, but it still shines bright and is rust free. So I presume there to be a way to make (and buy?) magnets coated for the marine environment?

Shipping from Punta Gorda to cape cod?

I have used Tony Stewart about twenty times for hauling my boat all over the east coast. The farthest trip was from West Palm Beach, FL to Mackinaw, Mi and it cost $5,000. Tony's number is (561) 253-4007. He has his own truck(s) (Ram 3500's) and several size trailers. He secures the boat very...

Marlin 300 Drain Plug (aft bilge)

My boat is rack stored. The marina is required to remove boat plugs. Has something to do with fire sprinklers, I believe. Every few years - and I think it is inevitable - they put a boat in the water without reinstalling the plug. It is the forklift operator's responsibility to confirm. And part...

    Seaspension install on a 228

I should have added that I'm following with interest, so please keep us posted. Might help help my 'bad disc/nerve damage issue. Except I'd need the booster seat version to be able to see over the helm! Rob

    Seaspension install on a 228

Lucky: Sorry for the stroke but good for you for not letting it dictate your life. I know it poses it limitations. I have them too. Painful limitations. This getting older stuff ain't for sissies. But you're adapting to the situation you've been given. Hurray for you! Rob

Boat Trip: Clarksville, TN to Huntsville, AL. Trip Complete!

The forecast for leaving Joe Wheeler for Huntsville was rather iffy. Early morning winds of 10 mph with gusts to 15 out of the southeast. Picking up to 20 mph winds with gusts to 30. Not my ideal conditions. Waiting the following day would put me into a forecast of T-storms. Not a better choice...

I haven't taken the time to say thanks for the positive comments. So thanks to each of you who have commented. And to all who have viewed. If no one viewed or commented, wouldn't be much point to taking the forum along for the ride. Rob

Boat Trip: Clarksville, TN to Huntsville, AL. Trip Complete!

I wanted to be at the boat and have it ready to go at first light, so I missed out on Hampton's breakfast. The coffee was good and the front desk person very kindly offered to grab me a bagel from somewhere in the back. I did arrive at the marina early and found another boat, Teva, also getting...

Boat Trip: Clarksville, TN to Huntsville, AL. Trip Complete!

My irrational fear of locks brings me to Florence Harbor. It's about 36 miles from JP Coleman State Park to Florence Harbor. And only another 21 miles to get to Joe Wheeler State Park, which is where I really prefer to get to. But there are two locks in those last 21 miles. And Florence Harbor...

Boat Trip: Clarksville, TN to Huntsville, AL. Trip Complete!

Two more pics of J P Coleman State Park. It is first state park I've visited in Mississippi. People were great. Docks were in good shape. Shelves were a bit bare in small store, likely being near end of their season. No restaurant on-site, but like other state parks, it had hotel rooms with a...

Boat Trip: Clarksville, TN to Huntsville, AL. Trip Complete!

Today little platform outside my RV came in quite handy for taking a video. Although the fog was easy enough to see. I would have preferred an early start. Clifton Marina is one of the last stops before Pickwick Lock and Dam and its about 50 miles away. The Clifton Marina owner, again, who was...
