Islander 268 - Anyone ever pulled forward gas tank

I just finished mine this last weekend, and the only really tough part was pulling the new lines. I used the old electrician's trick where you make a tape "cone" at the front and use pulling ribbon to yard them through. We ran the ribbon in 3 of the 4 paths, so the 4th required some magic...

Hi all , Please allow Me To introduce Myself

Welcome! I 2nd the idea of looking East for your Grady. Mine came from Virginia Beach in January of 2020. It needed (a fair amount of!) work but I couldn't be happier that I made that move...

    Sailfish fuel tank

Hmm. Maybe measure your deck hatch and be careful about making it any longer than that. A few inches maybe, but on mine the vertical clearance is tight. Have you pulled the hatch yet? Does yours look like mine? Personally, I love the two tank setup. I seriously thought about going to one, but...

    Sailfish fuel tank

My Sailfish is a 1998 272 and there was nothing between the tanks except a 2x4 spacer. Can't speak to any design changes happening over the year between our models, but here is the thread: https://www.greatgrady.com/threads/1998-272-fuel-tank-removal-questions.33552/ I had to trim a small...

Islander 268 - Anyone ever pulled forward gas tank

That sucks. You may have seen my thread - I had to cut a 6" area off of the bottom of a ply member to get my front tank out too. But it was far easier than what you face, OP.

New 1996 Grady White Islander 268 with twin 200 V6 Mercs

"ScottyCee, What kind of foam is that?" I bought a remnant at a local fiberglass surfboard (SIC) shop. I always wondered why a surf shop was in my neighborhood with no waves and all, but they sure do have everything a person could want for glassing stuff. It's 5/8" thick with a very fine...

1998 272 Fuel Tank Removal Questions

That marine Tex sealer looks like a good product. Think I'll get some of that to coat the tanks at the end. At least the undersides...

New 1996 Grady White Islander 268 with twin 200 V6 Mercs

Use a single piece of foam. Super strong, super light. This one was done 18 months ago and pulled up last week.

1998 272 Fuel Tank Removal Questions

They are really clean. There is a dusting of white oxidation / corrosion and some pitting that is very shallow in stripes where they rested on the rubber runners. No structural concerns, just want to kill the corrosion while it's easy. The two stripes look like the discolored 1-2" on the left...

1998 272 Fuel Tank Removal Questions

The structure blocking the tank in turned out to be the bottom of the ply that makes the step riser going up to the help. Cutting 1=1/4" off the bottom for 6" was insubstantial. Now that the cover plates are fabricated and test mounted I should be able to clean the tanks. Being able to get hands...

    marlin repower

Not interchangeable. Your Marlin transom is either 25" or 30" and you need that size motor.

    2005 SF 282 Battery Wiring

Mine has three batteries, and three switches. Two batteries dedicated to the two motors (individually or together), and both of them are isolated but charge the house battery. I though this was normal.

1998 272 Fuel Tank Removal Questions

Gas pump is safe for use cleaning out tanks. Fortunately there is little or no corrosion showing. Dry down there. Thanks for the input…
