Been cool to of had a 228 to compare also, especially the side by side pic. 208, 226, 228. Could see the difference a closed transom and bracket makes.

I don't know what vintage those are. My dealer had a 208 and a 228. I crawled all over the 208 and decided it would be a fine boat for 2 people fishing, you could do 3 but you'd be working around each other. The 228 you can fish 4 in very comfortably and you could do more but you'd be working around each other. The 2020 208 and 228 are identical (says my dealer) other than the 208 has a 2 foot shorter cockpit.
The 228 is around $30K more for that 2 feet, it's nuts. But my sidekick and I looked over and he said "Get the bigger boat".

If I were strapped for cash, I would think the 208 is a very reasonable answer. It looks pretty seaworthy.

Always the issue, soon as you buy your boat. In a few years or less youll want a bigger one.. The 272 is looking like my next stop and I swore to myself the 228 and I would be together for along time. Sai la vie
