How to install kicker on 20' 208 Adventure

I just bought a new 20' 208 Adventure that came with a 200 hp Yamaha engine. Being on Vancouver Island, Canada, I wish to install a kicker engine, 9.9 Yamaha for slow trolling and safety.
The local Yamaha dealer is not sure where and how to fit the kicker on the boat. Thinking of attaching a 2nd mount to the ladder mount on which to bolt the kicker.
Has anyone successfully installed a kicker on a 208 Adventure?

Hi, pictures attached. There is some space under the 2 back seats, but filled with wires and tubes. So the technician suggests adding a mount platform either under the ladder platform or on the other side of the transom

I have seen kickers mounted on the notch transom boats. An aftermarket bracket mounts on the side opposite the swim platform. Many are spring loaded to lift the kicker up a few inches. You can then tilt the kicker out of the water and run the big motor at speed. I wish I knew the names of the companies that make them.

Good - pictures are helpful. On the starboard side transom is lickety split easy. To be straight honest, if the dealer doesn't know how to do this... find another place. This is dirt simple with your setup. For example: https://www.garelick.com/files/12.295.pdf

Have a look at these Panther brackets , more expensive but much heavier duty.
I would mount it on the starboard side with a 5/16" aluminum plate on the inside to spread the load.
If anything is in the way , remove and re-install on the ally plate.

https://adventuremarine.ca/product/high-thrust-outboard-motor-bracket/ This is the bracket I have on my 208. Get the long leg 25"? T 8 or 9. I have remote trim tilt and controls at the helm. Mine is mounted on the starboard side because I did not want to rearrange the ladder. If mounted correctly it will clear the water when raised for running. Would recommend the fixed as the motor takes a fair bit of rattle and bang when towing.

This is the fixed bracket I have on my 228. The area you are looking to install is similar. (Everything is covered in ash due to the fires here. We normally attempt to keep it somewhat cleaner)

I ordered a Panther swim step kicker motor mount in late June for my 228 and still have NOT received it. Phone calls go unanswered, messages go unanswered. They got my payment from my credit card. Luckily I ordered through Bass Pro, panther Marine is a 3rd party vender so Bass pro will give me my $$ back but it looks Like I would have been screwed if I ordered directly through Panther??

Thanks, I'll also run this bracket by the dealer here in Victoria.
We also have the fire smoke in the sky up here but obviously not as severe.

Do you have any pictures of yours? I see some people said they had to bitch the adventure bracket because of the trim tabs. I’m just trying to get a feel for where it has to be mounted, thanks

I did one on your bigger brother, the 228. Don't have advice on how to do it on your boat but here is a tidbit. Grady wanted me to install the motor on the port side. On my boat, the port side is already weighted down with the batteries. I went against their advice and put it on the starboard side. Very happy that I did so. With my small younger son it rides perfect, no list, with a heavier person it lists to port. If I had put it on the port side I would be messing with trim tabs all the time.

My batteries are starboard so I’ll be mounting on port, just curious what height the mount should be since I see some people say they had to notch the mount to fit around the trim tab actuator. I also see one that appears to be sitting just above the trim tab that doesn’t look notched. Im going with a 25” Yamaha t9.9

I can't help you with that, I wish I could but my 228 is different, has the swim platform, you mount there. If there is anything I can help with I will but I have a different boat.

You can always call your credit card in this situation and they handle it for you

Adding my $.02 but basically repeating what others have said.

Measure your boat as the trim tab placements and clearance can vary. I’d look at possibly putting both batteries on the on side and the kicker on the other to minimize listing at rest/drift. Your swim ladder location will dictate this (also a good time to through bolt the swim ladder as they are sometimes held in by lag screws).

Definitely go with a fixed bracket and through bolt it. If you can’t find one online a local fabrication/machine shop could put one together.

Here's how I did mine. Had the bracket custom made out of 1/4" steel. I had a panther aluminum bracket fail on me. Corner bends sheared on it. Steel all the way. Had a local marine dealer do the install. Decided to move the swim bracket to balance weight. Upper bolts for the bracket go through above the back seat. Bottom are in the space below. I think they had to remove the fuel filter to do the job.

Please Please Please, get a cover for that new boat.
My boat sits on a trailer in my driveway and lots of trees in the area.
It's not gonna be pretty when those leaves get wet and then dry on your new gelcoat. The stains are horrendous
