That transom cap is pretty good shape from other that have been posted here. Considering the potential expense that could be incurred from a wet transom , it is is better to be safe than sorry!

Mine was 3,500 in 2022- This was removing twin engines and glassing over the applying the vinyl cap. I assume your boat is single engine, it sounds reasonable
