    Beats Working

Headed out for a solo day gamefishing. Hooked a nice little blue marlin but it threw the hooks soon after. The weather and dolphins alone were worth the trip.

Things I’ve Done To My 228

Started by compounding, new decals and ceramic coat. Replaced the plastic transom shower cap and cup holders with stainless steel ones. Picked up a new marine battery at half price and found it would fit under the starboard transom seat as a backup. One size smaller than my starting...

Finally Installed The Bow Pulpit With A Few Mods.

Finally found time to install the new bow pulpit on my 228. The pulpit is for a 228 ( made of coosa board these days) but I took it to a fibreglass shop to get a slot cut to take a 232 thru-pulpit bow roller and fill the groove where the 228 bow roller goes. Very happy with the job they did...

    Furuno/Suzuki FishHunter Drive

If this works as a direct interface between autopilot and motor without needing other expensive add-ons, it‘s making Suzuki a pretty attractive option when it comes to re-powering. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer...

    Christmas Eve Cruise

Took advantage of a beautiful Christmas Eve glass-out to take a cruise out to Lady Musgrave Island Lagoon (Southern Great Barrier Reef) for lunch and a snorkel. Then up to Fitzroy Lagoon and back to 1770 where we are spending Christmas.

    Bow Pulpit is Finally Here.

I ordered the bow pulpit for my 228 back in June was supposed to come with a boat shipment arriving mid August but with boat manufacturing delays it arrived this week. It doesn’t have mounting holes pre-drilled but there are dimples showing where the bolts go which is good. They supplied 3 tubes...

Any Ideas What These Wires Are For.

When I imported the boat the radar mount was removed. That meant the radar, anchor light and loud hailer were disconnected. I thought these wires had something to do with the radar as they are not for the loud hailer or anchor lights. When I remounted the radar it worked without these wires...

    Finished!

After a long but enjoyable process the detailing is finally completed. Compounding, with areas of wet sanding has bought back to original gelcoat colour. Replaced all decals and hullstripes. The ceramic coat has given it a great gloss and hopefully long term protection, considering the boat is...

    Skene Bow Chocks

If you have a bow pulpit, do you use your Skene Bow Chocks? They are about AUD$90 a pair. I'm not sure I would use them.

    228 Discontinuation and Bow Pulpit

With the discontinuation of the 228 does anybody know from past experience how long parts will be available? I have plans to add a bow pulpit to my 228 but I was going to wait until after an electronics upgrade, autopilot and auxiliary fuel tank. May be I should be moving the pulpit up the...

Calling anyone who has successfully applied hull striping.

So today I had a professional apply all the decals to my 2006 228. All fine until it came to applying the hull striping. It would not go around the bow without creasing. It didn’t come close. I think it may be due to the fairly thick paper backing which has no stretch causing it to crease. The...

I Was a Little Bit Offended Today (Again)

Previously on “Detailing My 228“ Episode1: On the home straight with detailing the 228. Decals going on next week. So I’m on my hands and knees re-caulking the floor panels and I hear a voice, not sure what was said. Stood up. “Sorry?“ “The boat, is it a Trophy?“ “No it’s a Grady White.“...

    What are the chances?

So as part of detailing the boat I am replacing all the decals. So I ordered the pendant decals on the walk around from the US. Standard shipping, no tracking. Had plenty of time. Other deliveries were taking 2 to 3 weeks. Shipped on August 25th. So a month went past nothing. 6 week 7 weeks...

    Boat Detailing Question.

The detailing is going well. One of those rare occasions when reality is better than expectation. I may be going overboard though. After compounding the radar dome today, I decided to do the VHF aerial. It wasn’t shiny enough. Do I need an intervention? One thing has me puzzled. After...

Free Decals to a Good Home

I have 2 sets of decals for anyone who could use them. The set below are domed but the the blue was more royal rather than navy. tthan navy. This set is navy and gold and 38” long but flat not domed. I have recently found supplier in Australia who makes domed decals. So I’m not going to need...

Well and Truly Down the Rabbit Hole

Last weekend I started detailing the 228. All decals removed and first pass compound on one side. The hull had been compounded and waxed regularly but the cabin etc. was fairly oxidised. I’m not sure if it was a good idea but out came the wet and dry sandpaper. No turning back now. Has anyone...
