    Upholstery paint

On my 282 Sailfish, the top of the cushioned pad that surrounds the cockpit has weathered in the California sun. Instead of being off-white it's now a peculiar Tuna barf yellow. SEM makes really good upholstery paint, especially if you use their primer, but I don't know the color. Anybody know...

    Cockpit bolster vinyl aging

My cockpit bolsters are white and in great shape but the very top of them is turning brown. I looked closely and it appears that due to the sun the vinyl is losing its color. Other than replacing them, does anyone know if GW makes an upholstery paint for Sailfish?

    Anchor windlass speed

On my 2003 Sailfish the windlass is a Horizon 500, I don't know if it's the original windlass but I'm not thrilled with it. One of the reasons is that it supposedly can raise the anchor at the rate of 62' a minute and whereas I haven't measured, I'd be willing to bet it's far short. The other...

    Livewell pump popped a breaker

On a trip to Catalina this weekend, about an hour after we stopped to stock up on Sardines, the livewell pump popped a breaker. I didn't notice anything at the time until we looked in the livewell and saw the water level was about two inches too low and the bait was lethargic. I turned the...

    Removing the bottom paint

When I purchased my 282 Sailfish last year, bottom paint had already been applied. As I store the boat on a trailer, I don't need it. Recently I noticed there were a couple of small areas where the bottom paint had flaked off, and to my surprise there wasn't any gel coat underneath. It looks...

    Accuracy of Yamaha gauges

On my 2003 Sailfish the Yamaha gauge displays the fuel level of either fuel tank, depending on which tank is selected. It's a vertical LED bar with segments. I was at Catalina over the weekend and the aft tank showed 1/4 full yet there wasn't enough fuel to keep the engines running; the main...

Adding an ammeter (or two) to the dash

Has anyone ever done this? I have a 2003 and other than a tiny value displayed on one of the Yamaha gauges there's no way to sense the state of the electrical system when idling, running at high speed, raising the anchor, etc.

    Cockpit drain hose replacement

On a Sailfish, does anyone know how to replace the Port cockpit drain hose that goes to the through-hull? I saw somewhere that if you remove the batteries and hire a small child it was feasible. I'd like to think that Grady White would have kept this in mind (hose replacement, not small...

    Low voltage warnings

I've seen several threads with this topic but mine's slightly different. We just made our first trip to Catalina Island to fish, while there we dropped anchor several times. I recently installed three new Northstar AGM batteries (from West Marine) and had the battery selector switches on...

    Rigging an outrigger

My Sailfish has Lee outriggers, when I purchased the boat last year I noticed the cords and fittings were pretty ratty but left it for now. I talked to Lee's Tackle (the manufacturer) yesterday about what kit I'd need, they were really helpful but surprisingly didn't have a manual or...

    Guest Battery Selector

On my Sailfish I have three batteries; the #1 setting on the Guest Battery Selector is two batteries wired together in parallel and #2 is the third battery. The section in the GW manual (below) doesn't answer my question - under normal operation you set Port to #2 and Starboard to #1, so when...

    Cockpit drain covers

Is there such a thing as cockpit drain covers that let water through but block everything else? Somehow cockpits attract leaves, so I have to cover my drains with 3M tape so they don't clog. Curious what other people do.

    Replacement outrigger lines and hardware

I checked the forums but couldn't find anything relevant. I have 19' Lee Outriggers with black cord, ancient hardware and some clear rings that look like glass. (I've never used outriggers before.) There are also old plastic rings about 1/2" wide that snap to the poles but they've long ago...

    Canvas enclosure

I've contacted a couple of canvas cover manufacturers but they either carry full boat covers or T-top canvas, which I don't need. My Sailfish has a hard top, what I'm looking for is a canvas enclosure that mimics the plastic window panels, e.g. the canvas would attach under the hardtop, cover...

    Yamaha repower questions

Hello all, Eventually I'm going to repower my Sailfish with either two new F225's or two F250's; I know there's a lot of static on various forums, especially The Hull Truth, about Yamaha engines but I believe they're a sound design. Has anyone repowered recently with brand new Yamahas? Do...

    Engine temp and oil pressure

I'd like to be able to see the engine temperatures and oil pressure on my 2003 Yamaha 225 four strokes. Apparently Yamaha addressed this in 2005 with an upgrade to the wiring loom so you could connect the engines to an NMEA 2000 circuit. My Yamaha gauges just have a high temp alarm; other than...

    Mystery switches

Going through my Sailfish and making things new, on my list is the switch panel at the helm. There are two rows of 7 rocker switches and on several the picture has worn off. As the Sailfish had 12 switches standard, it indicates the purchasing owner went for the options. Here's what I've...
