1998 272 Fuel Tank Removal Questions

Hi All, The time has to come to pull the fuel tanks out of my 272. I want to clean off any corrosion, flush the insides, and repaint them. I also want to look at the stringers and clean everything up. There simply wasn’t time to go this deep last year when we bought it but this year it’s going...

    GW Fuel tanks

I can't remember whether my fuel tanks are stainless or aluminum. 1998 Sailfish. I can pull a hatch next time I'm on the boat, but does anyone know off the top of their head? Thank you.

    Four Stroke Winterize...

Good day GW owners! I'm going to winterize my F225s soon, and want a little input - I'm used to 2-strokes and wonder if there are additional or different steps recommended. Some of this is more than just winterizing, but here's what I have planned: Water pump rebuild (motors are new to me this...

    Cowling Paint

Hi All, I know this has been asked plenty of times, but I couldn't find any of those threads. I want to touch-up my 2005 motor cowlings, so what is the path to matching the paint? I would prefer rattle cans if possible. I see Yamaha paint all over the place, but how do I get the right color for...

Tired of squeezing the old balls...

Made you look! ;) During my rebuild I discovered that both of my fuel priming bulbs were shot, so instead of buying new ones I opted to replace them with little line pumps. They were half the price of Atwood bulbs and work like a charm - they're both on one switch, so I flip it for a few...

    Embarrassing!

I pulled up one of the news stories about the "rocket scientist" private parties that approached the freshly landed SpaceX capsule, and right in front was a Grady White. Very bad idea - please be smart people...

These new loop propellers look amazing...

Anyone try one of these yet? I'm not sure they're even really available, but they look incredible. I remember being scared off by the price a while back, but now they are accepting orders. They're still 4x the cost of a standard steel prop... https://www.sharrowmarine.com/

    Head Zincs

I thought I should start a new thread with this question so I'm not a hijacker. LOL. Well, it's a simple as mine don't want to come out. I removed the bolt as shown, but I was unable to dislodge the assembly. Just wanted to make sure that is all I have to do before they should come out. I see...

    Update on 272 Restoration...

Coming along nicely, but wow - a lot of work! She's almost ready to splash. Yay!! I have to finish the canvas - I'll try to get most of it this weekend. Here's a list of the jobs that I have done so far: Make 3 replacement "outdoor" cushions Make new canvas enclosure - (50%+ done) Fab and...

    Autopilot question...

Hi, I have installed a helm based (Lowrance NAC-1) autopilot on my 272, but I have not splashed the boat yet. I'm accustomed to the Garmin Gold AP that I had on my kicker before (loved it), so I wonder whether the main motor AP would steer with a kicker powering the boat. I thought that maybe...

U-channel trim for side panels, etc.

Hi, Anyone have a lead on a nice product to use to replace the trim that runs on the inside gunwale and above and around the storage box "seats" behind the helm? I found OEM beige flexible Grady trim on eBay from Taylor, but it's simply too expensive. There are several "auto door protectors"...

    Lowrance Autopilot Commissioning trouble...

Anyone using a NAC-1 outboard setup with an HDS 10 rev2 non-touch? I could sure use some tips on commissioning. I know it's an older plotter, but it's supposed to be fully supported according to Lowrance web site. This isn't the oft written about "doesn't go all the way to the...side" issue...

    Tilt and trim seals

Hey All, I'm going to change out the T&T seals on one of my motors, and wonder if anyone could give me the short course. I have a mechanic buddy that has lots of experience with this, but neither of us knows the Yamaha specifics. Let's assume that we can get the caps off without destroying...

    Rub rail caps...

My 272 rub rail measures 1.5” x 1.5”, and having performed many Google and Amazon searches I have yet to see what appears to be an appropriate replacement rail cap. Any suggestions? Are they measured differently or something? thanks in advance!

    Hull trim - colored tape?

I'd like to replace some of the trim tape along the sides of my hull (~2" wide blue, 1/4" wide gold). Did you find a source for tape that it close enough in color? I have a feeling that I don't want to buy a GW trim kit this year, so I'm looking for options. Unless the original is affordable...

    272 20' Outrigger Hardware

Original Equipment - a recent pull from 1998 272 Sunfish. It was a freshwater boat, and these look like they will clean right up. All the hardware is complete and intact. Make an offer. You pay actual shipping.

    Replacement hold open spring...

I’d like to add or replace the missing spring that holds the glove box door open. Does anyone know what that is called and where to get one? Google searching for it came up with very little. I guess “spring” has too many other meanings this time of year LOL.

    Troubleshooting approach

Howdy howdy. I have a 2005 Yamaha 225 pair and fuel management system gauge is not operational. I have spent zero time troubleshooting this, but I would be super appreciative of anyone giving me a logical stepwise approach to dive in. Thank you in advance. Scott

    Paddle Wheel...

So, apparently the wheel part of this gizmo on the bottom of the boat is missing. Was this some sort of early built-in speedometer? And what would the best idea for treating it now be? The boat will be moored in saltwater and this will be a barnacle trap (I'm going to bottom paint). Should I...
