Can anyone tell me if I can use this 17x HSV antenna with a Garmin 3205 GPS. I have researched this and received different answers.
The Garman 3205 manual calls it a 17 GPS antenna , then there is a supplant from Garmin that says how to wire a 17x and 17xHSV to the Garmin 3205 . In speaking to a electronics person on Ebay about buying a 17x HSV from him , I am told that its the wrong antenna for a Garmin 3205 and won't work...
Anybody ever hooked up this antenna to a Garmin 3205 ?
thanks in advance

Per the Garmin website a GPS 17x HVS antenna is not compatible with a 3205, looks like the GPSMAP 4208 through the GPSMAP 7215 are the only compatible models.

the Garmin link that you sent me from Garmin doesn't seem to mention the 3000 series at all for the 17x but the link I sent you it explains a installation for a 3000 series

I'm not 100% sure, but if I'm correctly reading the installation instructions that you linked... a Garmin GPS 17x sounds as though it will work with the GPSMAP 3000 series but it doesn't sound like the Garmin GPS 17X HVS is compatible. Again, I'm not exactly sure but am fairly positive that a quick phone call to Garmin would clear up any confusion....

The Garmin 17x is a NMEA183 GPS antenna. The Garmin 3205 requires a external NMEA 183 GPS antenna. I don't see any reason why it won't work if you do the NMEA 183 wiring correctly. That 17x antenna has been around for a long time and used with most of the earlier Garmin chart plotters

That stuff is really old and outdated. I hope you aren't spending more than $5 on it.
You might try to get the last software update from garmin site.

THANKS Hookup1 and Skunkboat for the reply and info. I realize that this is old equipment but the Garmin 3205 gps came with the boat and I already have a icom 422 both working good. I just recently bought this overnighter and my Wife and I just like to cruise around the bay areas. I feel like I at least would like to be able to let someone know where we are if we have a problem. I plan to get it set up to 0183 because the Icom 422 is not 2000 compatible. So it will suit my purpose ,,,, beside I don't like to spend money lolol. hey thanks again for all the info
