You don't want water getting in the fibers.

If you can post a picture or two of the affected hull areas you'll get plenty of good advise here re: the repair process.

You might be asking for major work. Also this may be an indication of other maintenance headaches elsewhere that you can't see. Go with a more recent model of you can.
