Information on my engines

Okay, trying to find the exact and correct information on these yamaha engines.

F225TXRC and F225TXRB

Are they a 3.4, 3.6? 274658.8? lol

I have been reading through the rebuild manual and it is so generic for "all models" that I am unsure of the exact cuft engine specs etc. I am doing searches and will eventually find it, but wanted to post this as well to get more confirmation of a link. The serials on them are not part of what simyamaha lists on the 100-hour oil change kits, right in between.. so annoying. I hate ordering "hoping" I got it right, so need to find something that specifically says "these are yours..."

If you go on Yamahas website I think you can look up ur exact model and get the full details of the engines. Off hand tho I believe those are 3.3L. I will look for the link and post if for you.

I got all the parts in and was able to put the lower units back together, however..(you KNEW that was coming lol) ...

rain rain and more rain, so I did not get them put back on the engines. I had good (uninterested though heh) company....

I am still concerned with the oil on one engine. If there is an exhaust issue, could it have eaten through and leaked water into the oil?

look at the closeup picture. Only one engine has this issue.

I also cleaned the gasket behind the water pump...needed it.

Previous mechanic also gouged the shaft trying to get the impeller replaced last time, go figure. I cleaned that up, but goes to show the lack of care it had by their mechanic.

Due to rain, cannot workon the trailer atm...but, I have coffee, Bob Wills...a dog or three...and Internet

I assume that you are conceerned with water in the lower unit gear lube, not in the engine oil. Buy a pressure tester to check seals in lower unit.

I have a pressure tester, just have not put the units back together. Either way, will change the oil before I take her out. I called around and the quote I got was at least 450 per engine for an oil change so, guess I am doing it myself heh.

will do that, maybe next weekend. Will see how funds are.

You are only pressure testing the oil seals around the gear lube. You can do it with the lowers off the engine.

Anyway, so.. looking at the "kits" for oil change vs 100-hour maintenance.

Simyamaha has the twin oil kit for like $211

Partsvu has a 100-hour maint kit for 157 each. So, thinking.. the difference is.. plugs? hell, save 100 bucks, buy plugs.. heh

Any differences I am missing?

Also, how often do yuo swap the anodes? I already removed them so was debating adding new ones.

No set time service for anodes, replace as required , when you see them pitted badly time to replace. How long they last will depend on the water where you use them. 100 hour service kits, I buy marine oil in 20 lt drums(5 US gal) and the filters separate, oil filters are bloody expensive for the 4.2 lt much cheaper for your 3.3 lt .

@wrxhoon see, the problem I am having is... how do you know they are 3.3?

I know they are TXRC and TXRB, but when it comes down to websites, I keep seeing 4.2, 3.3, all these different cubic ratings, straight, etc... but not finding where these engines list the cubic ratings. Even the book I am looking through is so general for the year range models, I cannot nail down the exact specs.

Looking for the exact specs so when I start looking at the diagrams, I will know I have the correct model.

For instance, on simyamaha, the kits list the engine codes... mine falls in between the ranges...i.e. you would think there was a different classification heh.

Russ - those are 3.3L engines.

The "F225TXR" is all you need to be concerned about. A counter-rotating motor will have an "L" in front of it. The "A" and "B" on the end signifies the model year. And Yamaha dropped the year designation many years ago. Folks were getting spooled up about buying a 2005 model year boat with a 2004 model year motor even though a 2004 and 2005 motor were identical; one was just produced before the other.

Go to http://www.yamahaoutboards.com and click on "owner resources" to download an owners manual. They have them on the website going back to '06 but - again - the motors are the same. You can confirm that you have 3.3 motors by looking on the "specifications" page under the "engine" section....it shows displacement for that motor as 3352 cm(3).

I appreciate it, @Parthery but "all I need to know" does not define where they state they are 3.3l. While I believe you, learning and understanding cannot and should not be based upon what someone knows, but what can be defined by the manual.

I will check the manuals, I think they are in my bag, and see if they state the engine size.

Again, I really appreciate the help and knowledge, but I like to find the writing as it helps me when looking for parts, to nail down exact parts etc.

Okay, found where it mentions the 3.352 cubic measurements, so all good. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. For some reason, they did not list it till halfway thru the manual and I missed it.

Okay, so.. looking at Partsvu vs simyamaha... Partsvu also includes plugs etc, but is about 45 bucks more. I am looking at all of the things they include, for reference, seems like, at least for the first 100-hour I will do on this engine, replacing all of these items would seem prudent. Wish Boats.net had something... they seem to be cheaper than most....but no kits

The difference appears, Parts.vu has
-- 1 less qt of oil (not a huge deal)...
-- 1 qt gear lube extra,
-- no fuel filter gaskets listed,
-- Has new spark plugs
-- Has anew fuel water separator filter.

All that for about 35 bucks more per engine.

The separator is anywhere between 17-28 bucks, call it 20 bucks, oil and gear lube wash.. the gaskets are not included so, that price, plugs .. 30 bucks?

Eh, so.. about the same price but you get it all included.

Going to price it all separately and see what I need and do not need, but....anyone adverse to either of those places or have a better deal they know of?

Okay, so I cross-referenced everything on both lists and made a final list of parts etc, combining them both. I come up with about $226, for all the parts. I think, the way I did it, it will include some tax on a few items, but free shipping on the rest.

That is a heck of a savings, vs the kit, and I get plugs and all gaskets etc.

No, I did not use yamalube. I have seen all the debates on this. I understand viscosity issues etc, I had to centrifuge my own oil in the Navy... so I get it, and I have read every freaking argument 20 times on tht etc.. not worth the extra cost. I also got a better oil filter...yes, I have looked at the specs on all of it/them... if you have ever cut one of those apart, don't believe the hype... so any "yamalovers" don't bother with how the world will fall apart.. heh. been there, done that, wrote a book about it, you can find a copy on amazon somewhere... (joking.. don't go look).

Anyway, the rest are oem parts. The price vs the fittings etc, was not worth the extra costs. So, will be ordering my 100-hr maint parts soon, so this will be "fun".

And the people who think others are only looking at price, just makin excuses vs decisions.

I looked at ALL sides of the issues... not prices... hence why I took oem over others as price matters in some things but not in others.

i.e. the gear lube... not worth trying a different brand even though an 80w gear lube can be bought cheaper.. not enough information about that vs other brands.

lol.. well, I have to balance cost with quality. I am about 65-70k in a boat that has not seen water yet, so I want to make sure I know what I buy when I buy it, and I like to know exactly what I use in the engines.. heh

Folks should be happy people listen and research and do not just go "tell me what to do".. heh
