a 14# anchor will be more than adequate even for 6' seas if you use an appropriate length of chain-at least 15'.

Hey thanks !

I had just about given up on anyone responding to this thread. Your comments are in agreement with what I have learned from others off line. I am planning to use a 14# anchor with 250 feet of 3/8" nylon and 15 feet of 1/4" chain. Should be ok...

Mike, Not sure of the water depth that you plan on anchoring in but use at least 3:1 rode to depth when anchoring in normal seas. Use more rode if stormy-as much as 7:1 in heavy seas.
That amount of chain is typical for that sized anchor.
When I anchor, i always "back it down", meaning i put the engine in reverse to help set the anchor and you can feel when it takes hold of the bottom.
