livewell pump not working

I started filling my livewell sunday as I usually do,open seacock turn pump on and start filling got 1/4 full and pump shut off and will not come on any more.How do I go about checking whether its the switch or the pump itself.I have a 209 Escape.

I have a 208 Adventure and it has a circuit breaker in the circuit. You might check and see if your does also and if it is tripped.

Our six-year-old livewell pump died a couple of weeks ago.

The pump should have wiring leads a couple of feet long, with spade connectors to connect to the boat's wiring. Disconnect the positive lead and check the voltage to ground with the switch on. We had power, so I knew the pump was dead.
