I need to repower my 1997 seafarer 226 and want to compare the weight of new engines to my existing engine. does anyone know the dry weight of a 1997 Yam saltwater series II carbed engine? Thanks

I am not sure of the horse power you are looking at or have but for that boat, a 2-stroke in the 200 to 250 range would weigh in between 450 and 515 lbs. For a better estimate you can check out www.nada.com , they generally have good estimates of dry weight for both engines and boats.
Thanks for your replies. Do you think a 530 lb. e-tech will be to heavy, and cause the scuppers to be submerged? I was told 4 strokes are out of the question, and I'm apprehensive about the hpdi. thanks again.

Met a guy last summer who repowered a 228 w/ a 225 E-tec and he could not stop raving about it. Had absolutely nothing bad to say about the weight, performance, scups etc. It will be my next engine.
I have the 1997 Yamaha catalog. The 200 and 175 hp engines were carbed. The 225 and 250 hp were EFI. Assuming you have a 175 or 200, the catalog list the weight at 419 pounds without the prop. The 225 and 250 are 494 pounds without prop.
I repowered mine with a F225 and have no problems. Yea it sits lower but I can deal with it. There is not any more water coming over the transom or through the scuppers than when the 2 stroke was on there. I'm planning on moving the batteries forward and think it will sit the same after that.
If you still have you original engine on the boat just drop your boat in the water and sit on the engine cover. That should apply more than enough weight for you to measure the rear displacement you are going to get with a heavier motor.
