i noticed a pump by the piston pump, hose connection at the water line, wires run to the harness and rolled up,there's no switch up front, what does it connect to,or do i put my own in,iwould love to fill up the live wells if i catch a fish
Not enough info but a hose connection above the water line could be a bilge pump drain. There should be a second hose connected to that pump, assuming it is a pump.
the pump is for the outdrive pistons this water pump is mounted up high against the back and the outside is threaded for a garden hose.i'll try some photos http://usera.imagecave.com/tarra
The intake appears to be below the water line. I suspect this was a washdown pump. The 'valve' is garden hose variety and there is no seacock between the pump and the inlet. This is an invitation for sinking.
The setup is a fairly poor one.
Absolutely.....the livewell/bilge style pump is directly plumbed through the transom, and no seacock........that is an accident waiting to happen.....if you ever get boarded by the coastguard, you'll get nailed right there. That should be removed and properly plugged/repaired......the pick up should go from the bottom with a threaded strainer and then capped/bolted from the inside with a seacock......you can plumb to a pump of your choice from there and make a working livewell.
If the PVC nipple on that pump ever gives...there's nothing going to stop the water coming in.....
I agree with what everyone else is saying. Remove that set-up and repair the hole. If you want a livewell/washdown set-up, on a boat like that, do it right. A bronze strainer/pick-up, (thru the bottom) and a sea-cok.
I've got an article from PBB magazine on seacock replacement....I can scan it and send you a PDF if you send me your email...unless someone knows how to post a PDF for everyone to see...its a good article.
