I've just purchased a 2008 Tournament 225 with a 250hp Yamaha 4-stroke in Singapore and plan on taking it back home to Phuket Thailand in January. It's about a 700NM run up the Malacca Straits along the west shore of the Malaysian Peninsula with stops in Malacca, Port Dickson, Pangkor, Penang, Langkawi and finally Phuket. For safety and some piece of mind, I'll be installing either a 9.9hp High Thrust Standby Engine/Kicker, or a 15hp. I saw another 225 in Phuket recently and it had the standard 9.9hp. The owner had to cut a notch out of the swim platform to accommodate the standby engine. It looked like a nice clean arrangement. Is there anyone out there who has installed either the 9.9hp High Thrust, or the 15hp as an emerg backup on their 225? What kind of performance/speed were you able to get when you've used the engine?
