Guess I would probably fit into the over cautious category if there is such a thing. Maybe I should say the very cautious category. Man, when I put the old girl in the water. I raise the engine compartment hatch cover and visually inspect to see if there is any water coming in at the boat ramp before even starting her up. Just to stay on top of things, while underway, I turn those bilge pumps on manually just to see if she wants to spit anything out. I also make perodic visual inspections of the engine compartment during fishing stops. It never hurts to look for yourself. I certainly would not rely on float switches and warning lights as my first line of defense. Those poor guys obviously we taking on a lot of water from somewhere.
