Just closed the deal on my first Grady White!!! 2001 268 Islander with twin 150hp Yamaha HPDI's. I am just looking for any opinions, advice, helpful hints in regards to possible trouble items to keep my eyes on and anything else you want to add. Thanks!

Congrats on the new boat. Islanders are great boats, and you have a nice power package on there.

Make sure the fuel currently in the boat is fresh, with no phase separation. If in doubt, either stock up on fuel/water separator canisters, or get rid of the fuel. One member of our Grady-White club bought a used 222 a few years ago and it was loaded with bad fuel - cost him a lot after he fouled the engine.

May she always bring you home safely, with full fish boxes.

Brian

P.S. See if there is a Grady-White Owners Club in your area.

Brian, Thanks for the advice, I will definitely look into that. Off hand, I believe the only old fuel was leftover in the auxilary tank from the fall of 2012. It was valvetech fuel and I believe the owner said it was treated as well. The main tank was filled completely this spring when the boat was launched. It looks like I am coming away with approximately 150 gallons or so as the previous owner only took it out a couple times this year.

I looked for some Grady White clubs and the closest one is in Massachusetts, nothing local here in Rhode Island.

I know you have 2006 yamaha's so the comparison may be a little off from my 2001's, but any idea what your GPH is? The previous owner claimed 6-8 GPH per motor, of course, dependent on the conditions. Thanks!

I can run at 6-8 GPH, but usually a bit above that at the speed we cruise. But the real measure is MPG or, as I use, NMPG. Speed in knots divided by gallons per hour.

When heavy, we can get 1-6-1.7nmpg cruising. Wot is 36kts @ 28+ GPH.

That is what I noticed with mpg/nmpg in the limited use so far with this boat. Work and weather are not cooperating since this purchase went through. Hopefully that will change quickly.

Thanks again.
