G’day
I’ve got a 2002 sailfish 282
My trim tabs have failed there is oil in the reservoir but nothing is working, wondering if anyone had to replace trim tabs and need info of which kit to get. Any help would be appreciated

Is the unit getting power? Can you hear the pump running when you push the switch? Start with simplest issues to eliminate and then go deeper into it. There could be a hundred reasons why it's not working. You need to start testing from the power source and move your way towards the pump.

Yes there is power going to the unit but the pump is not responding
Had a lackey look at it and he suggested to get a new kit
So I’m wondering which kit I need ?

I'm not sure what your friend means by "get a kit" if the power unit has failed. When I think of "kits", I think of o-rings for the rams. Generally speaking, the system is extremely reliable. I'd be sure to check it out thoroughly and properly before just replacing things. I'd be more inclined to think that the motor control unit's wires (ground, for example) are corroded or broken. Check all of those wires. real well - along with the quick connect plug.

There's info and troubleshooting on Bennett's website - or you can give them a call - they are very helpful.

But, if the unit is getting proper power everywhere, then it may be that the motor is shot.

Exactly what Dennis is saying. Check all the wires to and from the pump. Also check the wires from the switch. I'm not saying pumps don't fail but it's very uncommon.

Thanks for all the help
I found a good electrician and went throughly with the unit
Ended up replacing a few wires as they had a lot of corrosion and success
However the acutators aren’t moving
In the Falange of the acutator there is nothing but air coming out
So I need more help

Can you confirm the trim tab reservoir if full? If it is full you possibly have a leak somewhere in the line.

And I’ve checked in transom area there was no sign of fluid

I am not sure which flange you are referring to but there shouldn't be any air or fluid leaking out. The lines may need to be bled. Go to the bennett site to see the install directions. That may help getting fluid to flow but I suspect you will still have a leak. The check valves in the pump unit could be gummed up or bad also. If bleeding doesn't help, you are probably going to have tor remove the pump for bench testing

Oh, "flange"! I was thinking to myself "What the heck is a 'Falange'"! Plus, Tom, you capitalized it, so that threw me off even more!

Hook the lines up and just start holding bow down for about 10-20 seconds, then bow up for the same, etc. It will purge itself.

You can also check that the hydraulic rams are not locked up by manually pushing the trim tab down and gently allowing the tab to come back up.

After it's all said and done, the correct fluid level is verified when the tabs are fully retracted.
