WEMA Sender Sealant

I replaced my fuel tank this past winter and installed a WEMA sender.

Took the boat out yesterday and as soon as the bow went up I smelled gas.
Popped the inspection plate over the sender and it was wet with gas.

Any recomendations on some type of sealer?

Generally sealant is not needed. Assuming you used a new gasket and it was the correct one, the most common reason for leakage is overtightening the screws. That distorts the mounting plate.
Was the mounting ring on the tank side cleaned of old gasket residue? Were all screws installed?
Did you overtighten the screws?
There are sealants that can be used but be sure they specifically say they are appropriate for gasoline.
Give WEMA tech support a call and see what they have to say.

As mentioned, over tightening could cause a leak. I use OMC or Mercury liquid sealers when I replace any senders. I would loosen it back up, put a coat of sealer on the tank surface and re-mount it. Tighten evenly and snug. I've done many without leaks.

Added some sealant to the screws yesterday (suggeted by a friend of mine).
Hope to sneak out later to give it a test!

'84Offshore, Hows it going buddy! If everything elese fails to seal that leak get you some Permatex Aviation Form-a-gasket. That will definitely seal that sending unit. did you ever manage to find you a hardtop for your girl? 8)

Each screw needs sealant or their own gaskets.

Be sure to get this sealed since water dripping down from the deck plate will sit on tank and find its way inside tank via sender flange or screws.
