Moving up to Seafarer 228, Engine Advise

The newer 228s are rated for 300hp but my '00 is only rated for 250 max. I re powered this spring with a F250 and it is very impressive. Could only imagine with the F300

Flush mounting electronics on a seafarer

I replaced the spring hinges that hold the plexiglas door in the up position. Not been a problem with them falling down.

Flush mounting electronics on a seafarer

To attach the upper part of the panel I drilled through the plexiglass door hinge and added a long machine screw on each side. For the bottom of the panel I drilled into the plywood base of the helm. This was from inside the cabin. I put three screws on the bottom but think that two would...

Where to mount 2 under water lights 86 offshore

If sealed properly you shouldn't have a problem going through the transom. My Grady has scuppers all the way through, trim tabs, etc. I do have a transom block but wouldn't have a problem mounting lights.

best engine size for seafarer 228

I had the OX66 rebuilt after water was found in one of the cylinders and the engine seized. A blown gasket on the bottom of the power head was thought to be the point of intrusion as everything else seemed good. During the breakin period once I had enough hours to open up the throttle I was...

best engine size for seafarer 228

Not a weight issue with the 300 HP on older hulls but only rated for 250HP...otherwise I would have gone with the 300.

best engine size for seafarer 228

I have a year 2000 Seafarer 228 with a 225 horsepower OX66 (I should say had, since there's a hole in the block where it blew). I'm in the process of re-powering with a new Yamaha 250 4.2L Offshore 4-stroke. I found the 228 to be a bit underpowered with a 200HP engine when looking for my...

Re-glue a piece of cockpit trim?

I had the same problem a year or two back and used a vinyl adhesive that I purchased at Lowes. This worked well and is still holding tight.

    Underside of Swin Platform

That's pretty much what I planned on doing. I spoke with Grady White customer service on the phone and she told me that was gelcoat underneath. I'm not sure she's correct on that. I'll just hotcoat the bare wood and repaint the bottom with an epoxy paint. I'm getting things ready to fish...

    Underside of Swin Platform

While doing some spring cleaning I discovered some bare wood under the swim platform. I will repair but need advice on what to use. I'm guessing its an epoxy paint of some sort. Anyone know what was originally used.

Silicone Sealer Question ( cleaning? )

I've used the GE II Almond color from Lowes or Home Depot in the past with no issues. The color matches fine and no issues with mildew. Just make sure you tape on both sides of the joint to be caulked. It really makes for a neater seam with a lot less cleanup.

    SS Drink Holder Upgrade

Has anyone used these in a 2000-era Grady? I'd like to change out my plastic ones but want to make sure they're a decent fit.
