Has anyone installed a suspension seat or air chair on their Adventure 208? Any details would be appreciated!

There are shock absorbing seat bases available but all the ones I know of have round bases. The 208 originally was equipped with a flat side pedestal ( D shaped ) . Typical round pedestal bases don't fit correctly. I had often thought about cutting off one side of a base but never did it. I wanted adjustable height and not shock absorbing.
Since the current offerings for shock absorbing seat bases run about $1,000 , I would be less inclined to try cutting off a side of the base.

Thanks! Definitely want the suspension/shock absorbing. Most I'm looking at use the existing D shape base. You just have to specify 2 3/8 or 2 7/8 post so they can use the original base. Pretty sure mine is 2 3/8. One I like is from smoothmovesseats.com. I'm curious if anyone has used other brands or styles.

put one on my 226 last year. seaspension seat pedestal. H can make it with the flat side like the original. wife says it take the edge off the slapping, which bothered her back. had to loose most of the space in the drawer underneath and with the swivel added about 1-2" in height.

Why did you lose drawer space? Does the new pedestal extend into the space below the locker?

yes, the low profile post sits about 7" into the locker

i used a seaspension 4185 so it swivels. didnt need it to slide on the port side.

I've got a 228 but other than the transom, I think it is the same hull. I got a seaspension after I had a stroke, lol, the doctors were all asking "Do you doing anything that bounces you around?" Uh, yeah, I fish on the Pacific, all it does is bounce me around. It pounds the crap out of me.

My stroke was a vein bursting in my head, which really sucked, it was more painful than anything I've experienced by a lot, but they told me it was the "best" stroke to get. More than a year later, I'm still fishing.

I love the seaspension, I fish with a guy who also has a 228 but his 228 beats me up, I came back from a recent outing with him and my head was all fucked up, felt like I had another mini stroke, sharp stabbing pain in my head. Nowhere near as bad as an actual stroke but still.

I went out a week later in my boat with that seat and my head was fine.

I have nothing but good things to say about that seat post and the company that produces it. The main guy worked with me and made it so the ring around it went on top of the box where the seat is and the post went to through the top and sat right on the floor of the box. So it is supported twice.

If you look through my post history I'm 99% sure I posted pictures of the install.

I would really appreciate any follow up as this is something I'd like to do to our 208 as well. Original seats are not comfortable, we spend most of the trips standing.

Thank you,

Thank you,
My Grady is a 2020 and the seats are cushy. My friend's boat is a 1999 and the seats are just hard plastic. Maybe look into some cushy seats and then add the post?

Thanks luckydude, Yeah, I thought about that too, I just don't know a good place to start. I was hoping to get there w/o too much research. Still looking...

Email grady white and ask them what seats they put on a 2020 228. Be prepared for your wallet to scream like a teenage girl at a horror movie.

Thank you,
Scott,
I bought the 4185 for the helm seat only since I usually fish solo. I also ordered the slider for full capability.
I called Seaspension directly and spoke to Ian the owner. Great guy. Very helpful. Haven't installed yet but it looks pretty easy. Hardest part will be cutting the hole in the helm seat storage box. They currently are offering $100 off thru 12/31/25. Hope you get this in time!
Happy New Year!
Jeff

Wow..
What was the make and model, I would like to look at the unit
Seaspension Low profile 4185

Here's the email from Ian.

Hey Jeff
That Boat typically takes our model 4185, which is a low profile model that is 8 1/2 inches above the deck and 6 3/4 inches below the deck into the box. That pedestal comes in swivel and non non-swivel version. You can add a low profile slider, which will add an inch and a quarter to the overall height making it 9 3/4 which I believe is a little higher than what you have, but it works well for most people. The pedestal and the slider will both bolt directly to your seat and the base of the pedestal bolt on top of the box the same as your existing pedestal you’ll just have to cut a 5 1/4 inch hole in the center of the pedestal to allow a 5 inch cylinder to protrude 6 3/4 inches into the box measuring from the top that fits in most situations. Some Grady white have a tackle drawer on the passenger side customers tell me they just have to remove the top drawer. This model was specifically designed for the Grady white and Boston Whaler and works well, we have many of them in use. The 8 1/2 low profile pedestal is in the swivel version is $ 925 a non-version is $875 and the flat plate slider is $200. You will not be able to reuse your slider with this model pedestal, however it is possible to use the model 4310 which will put your seat 10 inches above your existing box and will let you reuse your existing slider however it will protrude 9 1/4 into the box the 4310 is $875 and you would be able to reuse your existing slider. Feel free to give me a call and I can answer any questions. Thanks, Ian.

I'm pretty sure the adventure hull is the same from the cockpit forward as a 228. There is a write up of my install on my 228, just search.

It's loosening up nicely, I really like it.
Found it! Thanks! Great info. The only difference I see is that mine won't go to the bottom of the little storage cabinet so it will only be supported by the mounting plate. It only protrudes about ~7" into the box. Mine appears to be a shorter model than yours. It's the 4185 "low profile".

Congrats on your recovery. Just keep going forward!!
Best,
Jeff

ps; did you get your Albie or tuna?
