Yes. What I am doing is very similar, with the mounting bracket on the compartment wall. My issue is getting access to the back of that wall to install a backing plate. I think cutting an opening and adding an access plate inside the storage compartment will be the solution. Thanks

Thanks for all the suggestions, and believe you are correct on each. Boat is stored 30 minutes away, but think I will look for the screws you mentioned first, then cut an opening and install an access plate if there are none.
