    Weird problem batteries 98 Sailfish

Thanks for the replies. Agreed about the battery charger. Will have it checked out in the fall. All three batteries were 3+ years old, std. Dekas. Not AGMs. Major lesson learned, do not keep a battery on the charger all the time!

    Weird problem batteries 98 Sailfish

An Update! All 3 batteries were bad. Had to pull them all out and take them to all battery store (Pasco in Salibury MD). All reading 12.7-12.9 volts and all reading less than 30 amps under load. Thanks again for the replies.

    Weird problem batteries 98 Sailfish

Just an update, batteries all at 13V. Dremeled all of the battery cables, etc. No change. Other problems, the stereo and the VHF have noise coming out of them when not even turned on. I am somewhat confident the boat took a large voltage spike which has really messed up the boat's...

    Weird problem batteries 98 Sailfish

Thanks for the reply. Did a quick job with a file on the connections but will use a dremel to really remove the corrosion. I do suspect it is the ground wire going to something. First have to remove all the batteries and check them disconnected, clean all terminals and reinstall. Total pain...

    Weird problem batteries 98 Sailfish

Having a very strange problem with the batteries, at least it appears that is what is the cause is. 3-Deka 800 Amp batteries, one 2 yrs. old and two, three years old. Motors are the Yam OX66 225 . Started perfect three weeks ago but did not start yesterday. Batteries all read 12. 9 V...

    need help!!!

I had the same problem with an 85 Trophy Pro I used to own. Decided to donate the boat because it was not worth fixing (also needed 2 new motors). Anyway, do an extensive search on transom repair Grady white. There are some new ways that you could actually repair the transom yourself if you...

    Electrical questions 272 Sailfish

Thanks for the replies. I believe the battery is trashed, after on the onboard charger for a week, it barely gets to 12V. Should be 12.7V. Not too sure how old the batteries are, we have had the boat for around 18 months. I now have to find the point of attachment for the macerator and the...

    Electrical questions 272 Sailfish

Kind of stumped. Several questions. 1) The Accessory/Starboard Battery is dead, charges up when plugged into the dockside power by the charger. When running for several hours, the depth finder, which shows volts, shows it dropping off all day. Starts at 12v and DF finally blinks out at 8v...

MECHANIC IN OC MD for OX 66 engine repl/rebuild

Title says it all. I think that I blew the starboard motor on Friday off shore. Got home, barely, stopped 1/2 mile from canal. Need to get the mechanic to pull the boat (no trailer) and put a short block replacement engine in. Any experience, Taylor Marine? Thanks for any help. Steve PS...

GW 193 Holiday needs stringers replaced

First of all, get on the internet and review what other people have done. This is not a trivial project. 7 years ago, I cut the deck off a Robalo, 1972, and redid everything down to the hull. The cost for the repair, all material, was over $3000. You cannot go to 84 Lumber for your...

Steering in 272 Sailfish getting stiff

Went out to the Hotdog yesterday and boat ran great the whole way. Getting close to the beach, I noticed that the steering was getting harder to turn. The boat has two 225 OX 66 Yamahas. I am assuming that the problem could be one of the motors is slightly seizing up vs an hydraulic...

    98 272 steering issues/trim/tilt issues

Thanks to all for looking and thanks for the replies. I will have to have the boat pulled out of the water for the trim/tilt unit. I will try to bleed the steering this next weekend. I wish I had it on a trailer but it stays on the lift 12 months out of the year. This boat sat with minimal...
