    Embarrassing Admission/Question

Due to some travel I haven't been out on the water much but with the past 5 hours or so on it since the mishap it's been fine.

    Embarrassing Admission/Question

I've been boating on the Chesapeake Bay for over 20 years and yesterday while maneuvering to anchor I had the starboard engine quit on me and would not stay running while in gear. The Yamaha display showed the engine blinking in red and was not responsive to moving the throttle from forward to...

    Boarded by the CG

It is my understanding that an SOS strobe satisfies the requirement at night and if you add to your kit a distress flag you're good for day or night per the CG regulations. No flares required if you have the strobe and flag.

    Boarded by the CG

Idling in to Annapolis harbor a few days ago I had the CG approach me and tell they'd like to board for a safety and docs inspection. It wasn't punitive and seemed like a friendly early season "keeping busy" task so I agreed. The first question they asked "did I have a weapon on board." On...

Freedom 275 lists to port while docked

My 2024 sits level at rest. I've been intentional about what I store in the bow compartments, under the helm and in the head to even the load. More often than not, the live well is full of ice and water bottles. Now, when I get a few folks on the boat it's another matter as everyone seems to...

Yamaha Extended Engine Warranty - Is it worth it?

When I bought my boat last summer Yamaha was offering 5 years included in the purchase. I'm glad to hear that the 200s are a good reliable motor.

    235 vs 255

I dropped by my local GW showroom today where they had a 235, 255, and 285 on the floor. Single 300 on the 235, dual 200's on the 255, and dual 300s on the 285. The price difference in the new 235 and the 285 would be over +$200K. It's $100K more than I paid for my well equipped 275 so I'm...

    Boat Wax

I had the entire boat detailed and waxed topside and hull. I bought the boat new last summer and it had had nothing but routine rinsing and wipe downs since new. I had the detail and wax done when I unwrapped it. I'm near Annapolis on the Chesapeake.

    Boat Wax

The boat looks great but I guess I’ll see how it holds up over this year.

    Boat Wax

Has anyone here tried this product and if so what are your thoughts? I had my boat detailed today and this is the product they used.

    Ceramic coating?

What's the wisdom on here about ceramic coatings on boats? I'm very happy with the result on our car which we had done when brand new. My Freedom 275 has had one season on it with just normal wash downs. I'm wondering if the expense results in a more maintenance free and easy cleaning result.

    235 vs 255

I haven't spent any time on a 235 but I did compare the 255 and 275 which are not significantly noticeable in cockpit space.

    235 vs 255

The 255 is just about the same size as my 275 (inside the cockpit of the boat) and I looked at it but my criteria was two engines. With a pair of 200s on the back of a 255 it just made sense to go ahead and buy the 275 w/the 200s on it. It jumps up on plane pretty quick and still has a very...

Thoughts on when to shed the shrink-wrap?

I winterized and shrink-wrapped the boat on our lift in mid-December and have left it on shore power charge all winter. My previous boating experience years ago was to put our Sea Ray on the hard in December and being one of the last boats in, was one of the first out at April 1. As previously...

    Really cold storage?

I get that for the wet systems on the boat. I went looking for the temperature range for my Garmin 8616 and other nav electronics and can't find anything in the manuals that states a range. I'm not sure what the internal battery technology is on some of these things or if they have batteries...
