2004 300 Marlin "console"

I've purchased a 2004 300 Marlin but it is still located 150 miles from me and I'd like to do some planning for electronics. I've seen some great flush mount installs using star board or a flat panel of the
graphite.looking1000003349.jpg
material face. My question is this. If I cut out the corners and put this new panel on... what are the dimensions of it? Obviously it tapers thinner towards the top -
what is the (Width at the bottom ", width at the top " & heighth " ) ?

Take a look at www.newiremarine.com and their custom panels. If there is a panel there now they can replicate dimensions. Photo's and your location would help others help you.
 
This can be a fun project - but I don't think it's something you want to try and create before having the existing panel in your hand. Nothing against any of the guys here, but to make this look GOOD, your dimensions need to pretty much dead-on and you don't want to rely on some guy's dimensions on a forum :)

New Wire, as noted, may be the easiest solution. If they don't have your setup, mail your panel to them once you get it.

Agreed. Just trying to get a best guesstimate to see what I can fit & arrange. I will definitely wait for final measurements and building it.

Definitely measure your own console. Also, consider black acrylic. I did mine with acrylic to match the access panels on the overhead storage boxes above the helm.

Very Nice, definitely what I'm going for - it looks great, thanks for the pic. As discussed, I'll do my own measurements for the project, but do you know roughly what the width of the panel is at the bottom, at the top, & then the height in inches? Just trying to see if my configuration is even possible.

NewWire panels are acrylic. Mine are "fake" carbon fiber. Look great and are much cheaper to produce. My 8612xsv chartplotter mounts differently. Starboard panel fitted to lower radio box opening with serious rework. Second chartplotter in overhead.

everyone has a different opinion, but i wouldn't do the high gloss black acrylic panel. its essentially mounting your electronics in a black mirror. there's lots of distracting glare and reflections

Good point as well to think about. This is really a great site, and as a Grady Newbie I'm so thankful for the wealth of knowledge. I can hopefully be a valuable contributor down the road as well!
 
I think I like the shiny black acrylic because it matches the cockpit motif of my 2006 Marlin. The overhead hatch covers and the hatch leading below are all the same black acrylic. I’ve never had an issue with the reflective surfaces, but then polarized sunglasses probably help. The shiny black Suzukis add balance. Good feng shui (lol).

I wasn't going to start on anything until I have the boat, just looking for rough measurements to see if my configuration even has a chance of fitting. I guess noone can get me those #'s.......
 
Can you look at Harry's console... with the MFD models he has... and grab the dimensions of the MFD's from the manufacturer's website? That should probably get you a decent idea.

Yep!
I have a high gloss black acrylic panel ad hate it as it mirrors the sunlight, particularly bad when sun is low.
The Marlin has a bigger hard top so it may be a smaller problem, but fingerprints and other smears will be very visible.
My personal opinion is to find fake carbon look lame, but as long it's matte and don't reflect sunlight it's a reasonable good choice.
I will either sand, foil the panel or make a new one, if a new one probably again out of HPL (white, matte High Pressure Laminate) as i had this on many boats and it works well.

I’ll be able to go out to my dock tomorrow and will measure the console dimensions. I believe your 2004 Marlin console is the same as my 2006. Do you need the dimensions for the area where the switches and Motor gauges are located as well? I have two 12” Garmin displays in the upper console and my motor, autopilot, and trim tab displays mounted in the lower panel (along with all the rocker switches, of course).

for black, NewWire Marine has a nice matte black called Lux Matte. i think i still prefer the basic glass/gelcoat to match the rest of the console

I had two panels for my Venture 34 in Costa Rica made by NWM, so i know them.
As i am in Italy i will look locally as shipping cost from US to Italy will be too expensive and i am sure i find something similar here.
The ceapest option would be to give it to a friend here in my town who does wrapping and choose a matte color, probably not black as it gets easier dirty than other colours like a grey or GW white.

The acrylic is nice but it can crack. I made my panel (well I tried) with 3/16 acrylic. After the cutout for the 12" display, there was one corner that was very narrow(an inch). That cracked while drilling the mounting hole.
I remade it with 1/2" black starboard. Starboard is much easier DIY.
The ABS panels (fake "carbon fiber") are thin and flex a bit. I would not recommend them for mounting a big display. Great for switch panels.
 
Here is a link about HPL panels and what it is, often used for small and big door panels.
I made many instrument panels from it and choosing the right thickness they last very long and are easy to work with and they are available in many colors, including faux wood.
Starboard is a nice material to do that too and have still the one from my 98 BW 23 Outrage, but difficult to get here in Italy so i have to find another solution and HPL is easy to get here, either from aluminum window and door manufacturers or just ordering a sheet.
