I got an intermittent noise issue. After trolling a few hours then cruising back home, we have a chirping noise coming from one of the engines at idle. Increase RPMs and it goes away. Has anyone heard the noise in the attached file?

Check if it comes from belt tensioner, had this on a car and it was the belt tensioner when he moved over the slightly thicker part where the two belt ends are connected together.
Have you (had) replaced the harmonic balancer, not sure if he may create the chirping, but it would be a disaster if harmonic balancer self-destroys.

Harmonic balancer does it normally cause a chirping.

I can’t download this, but I had an issue with chirping

Soon after my engine seized

I brought to the Mechanic and they were able to fix it. It was the keyway on the flywheel.

But soon after maybe a year or so that whole fly wheel got chewed up as well as the crankshaft

The engines were 2004 and not worth repairing because it was severe damage

I had to re-power

I’m not saying it’s the same thing but I’m saying make sure you get a real legit good mechanic to check it out

I feel I got totally screwed by bad mechanic work

My engines were in tiptop shape and should’ve lasted me forever the way I take care of them

Good luck be careful don’t wait!

Thanks Chris. My brother has the same year and model engines and had a harmonic balancer go last year. He said this noise was not what he heard right before the failure. So hopefully that is not the problem. My brother thought belt tensioner also. I will start with that.

I have 2006 F150's. Yamaha had a problem with the harmonic balancer. The gear was wearing and shedding plastic into sump. Potential self destruct. I was out of warranty but replaced them anyway. Motors have 2,500 hours on them now and run like new. Have a Yamaha tech check it out for you.
