Went to look at a possible purchase today:
2003 282 Sailfish
Twin Yamaha 225's, original, 900 hrs
Boat needs a serious detail, beyond faded, looks chalky.
Hull sides exhibit some scratches
Triple axel Bunk Trailer, 2014
Electronics seem outdated. (2) Garmin GPSMAP 840xs
Looking opinions on the value, assuming everything is in working order and the engine run well.

It would be much cheaper to find one with newer motors, recent electronics, and minimal deferred maintenance than buy one as described and refit it. BUT - the benefit is that you can choose every component you desire.

This one sounds like one to start really low - say mid 30k, maybe insulting, maybe not, but it is a starting point for the dance. Motors effectively worth nothing. Trailer maybe a couple of k, electronics don't add value to boat, and condition is not helping. What else is broken or tired?

Is it the one listed on Boat Trader for $41.5k in New York? If so, I don't imagine the seller is going to drop the price down over $10k and sell it, especially if the "issues" are cosmetic only in nature. Of which that would bring me to my question... what are the issues with the boat? If everything works on the boat, the engines check out and don't have the dry exhaust issues, and it literally just needs to be detailed or have new bottom paint applied... I see no reason why it wouldn't be a $40k boat. For comparison purposes, though it's not really apples to apples, I bought my 2004 Grady White 228 Seafarer that had a single Yamaha F225 on it with just under 1k hours at the time of purchase and a 2009 aluminum I-beam trailer back in October of 2021 in Maryland for $26.5k. Considering that you're looking at almost the same year of boat as mine but it's 6' longer, has a newer/bigger trailer and so forth... I can't imagine it would only be worth $30k, or essentially $3,500 more than what I paid for my boat, and I got a steal of a deal on mine. If it's the same boat that I mentioned above that's on BT, it does show a recent price drop of $8,400, which to me might indicate an issue with one of the outboards having the dry exhaust corrosion issue, a transom needing to be rebuilt or something similar. But again, if the boat is in the condition advertised, everything works and is how you're telling us... I'd say it's at least a $40k-$50k boat depending on the actual condition, especially if it just needs to be detailed and the "issues" are only cosmetic in nature. Just my opinions of course, good luck with whatever you decide on doing.

I guess that means yes that it is the same boat from Boat Trader? Again, I don't think the seller is going to take more than $10k off the asking price because it needs some cosmetic work done to it and when he's already dropped the price down $8,400 before then. How about telling us your location, what you're looking for and what kind of boating/fishing you'll be doing, if you're willing to travel at all and maybe most importantly what your budget it?
 
Yes, that's the boat,
I'm on long Island NY, This would be my 4th Grady. Started w/ a '78 Gulfstream (I/O), '84 Offshore (I/O) and currently a '95 Islander (Twin '05 175 Fichts).
I generally fish the Great South Bay or outside the Fire Island Inlet area. Mostly fish for Fluke, and Striped Bass and maybe Blackish. The older I get the less fishing I do and the more relaxing I do on the beach or clamming.
I'm considering a 272 or 282 if I can find the right boat.........not looking to break the bank!
 
Have you considered a 232 Gulfstream? They have several of those on Boat Trader right now in that $40k-$50k range.
 
Befor I saw the price I would have said 40's. Big if here is have the engines exhaust been replaced, If not it is a prime candidate for the infamous dry exhaust issue.

Either boat you decide to go with, do yourself a favor and get a professional marine survey done. Then you'll know any potential issues/costs that you can't see like water intrusion in the transom, the dry exhaust issue already mentioned, batteries and charging and, at a minimum, compression of the engines.
