Does anyone with a 265x use a center rigger? I have bungee clips in two locations on the hardtop for the halyard but that makes it pretty high up to reach. Not impossible, but I’d like something lower. I’m thinking that I wrap around the rocket launcher but that could have the 400lb mono rubbing on the actual hard top. If I pull to one side or the other and tie to the upper rod holder it would impede using that rod holder for trolling which typically has my long rigger bait.

Where do you tie off your long rigger line if using?

Not a 265, but on my 330, I run the center halyard to the base of the middle rod holder on the port side. It is slightly forward of the holder, so it does not interfere with the holder. It is still a reach, but far better than on the hardtop.

Why don't you put a heavy rod or even a wooden broom handle in the center hardtop rod holder with heavy line and a release clip. Clip would hang down where you could reach it from the cockpit to clip the line up.

I’d rather not tie up a rod holder and the center rigger base is already there.

I’ll look into this but in my mind the halyard will be inside so it could interfere with grabbing the rod in the holder upon strike. Certainly manageable and better than the reach up high.

We run center riggers rod in the cockpit clipped up to the center rigger.

Exactly! How do you handle the halyard on the center rigger? After release, you pull the clip back down, put your line in and send it back up. This is process is my challenge because I’m not 6’ tall. I’d like to have the release clip be manageable from the cockpit at a reasonable height. Ideally, I’d tie it off to the helm chair but then no swiveling . I got to swivel!!

You need to get the center rigger line and fishing rod line up and out of the way 3 to 6 feet so you don't bang into it when handling other rods in the cockpit.

Don't use a halyard. Just use a fixed length line. Maybe a Aftco RollerTroller clip on the end. Crimp a line loop to overhead rod holder to secure your center rigger clip when you are not using it. If you decide to use an adjustable halyard use a GemLox lock otherwise the geometry will have it creeping down.

Put the fishing rod in one of the tower leg rod holders. I don't fish out of my overhead rod holder - just store different rods.
