228 owners - have any of you moved the aft bilge pump?

I think they have always put the aft pump under the baitwell. That's not ideal because I like to see if the switch works annually. Other than removing the baitwell, my only other option is to fill the bilge with enough water that it turns on. The problem with that is it is gonna move all the debris, if any, towards the pump.

So I'm wondering if anyone has thought this through and moved the pump to a more accessible place?
 
Unless they changed something up over the years, which I'm kind of doubting that they would do, there's a fore and aft bilge pump on the 228 Seafarer, or at least on my boat there is and it's what it shows in the brochure as well. Not sure what the benefit of moving it would be? I always flip the switch on at the helm before the beginning of each season and listen to make sure it kicks on and spins
 
Lucky... what if you left it where it was but made lifting the float a "remote" operation? For example - and this is a very basic idea just to explain what I'm thinking... screw/epoxy a string to the float and run the other end of the string up to a hook within easy reach. Or... a small "tool" (like a bent, small diameter rod) to reach down there to lift the float.
