    Freedom 275/85/307

We owned a 2002 Islander 270 until this past January, and put tens of thousands of miles under her keel. I have also been on many other GW models, mostly for coastal and offshore fishing. As you look at those three models, they really do get incrementally larger and you don't indicate where...

    Shaft length for a 1995 26.8 Islander

Congrats on your GW. Now that you own one, I recommend you get familiar with their web site, and available support. On the web site I was able to access the catalog for the 1995 models and confirmed what I was fairly sure of. Shaft length of 30” for single engine, 25” for twins, and max hp of...

    Safety Equipment

Lots of discussion here and on other sites as a result of the recent loss of two young men off east coast of Florida. I decided to start this thread. Although we sold our Islander in January for health reasons, many of you know me from years on this site. My background includes electronics...

New Power on my 96 Islander

We bought our 270 Islander new in March 2002 with a single 250HP OX66. Cruise speed and fuel consumption was just as you noted. Caught the offshore fishing bug and even with the larger 150-gal tank we didn't have the range to head offshore of Virginia Beach for pelagics. It was Sep-Oct 2005...

    Is 300hp enough on a Freedom 255?

We bought our Islander 270 new in March 2002 with a single 250 OX66. Much bigger boat and rated for 500hp. Performance just adequate and repowered to twin F150s in Oct 2005, mainly for improved fuel range to fish offshore. Considered a larger single, but 300 HPDI only option at the time. If...

    Ranges and fuel

Russ, the Islander 270 could be built by GW for single or twin engines. If a single, then only the main 150 gal tank is installed. If for twins, then a 56 gal aux tank is adeed as a belly tank under the bridge deck area. Actually, in the bilge, under the shelf that has the water tank and the...

Reduce to a single from twins

Not sure what prop you have on there, but those RPM/Speed numbers indicate a LOT of prop slip (unless you're running 13" or 14" pitch). This was the same problem I had with our original 250HP OX66 on the Islander 270. Too much boat to push with that limited blade area - improved with...

    New here, looking for Grady

Lots of models in that size range. Smallest with a mid-berth would be the 272/282 Sailfish, and I've never seen one without a hardtop. Islander can be single or twins, has enclosed head, and is still 24/7 trailerable. Most have hardtops.

    GW 263 Chase 2002

We bought our 2002 Islander 270 new with a single 250HP OX66. WOT was 30.6kts. Cruised at 22kts at 1.2nm/gal, sometimes a bit better but easy to get down to 1.0nm/gal in snotty conditions. Tested with a lot of props and best was a PowerTech OFS4 at 17" pitch. Put 465 hrs on the single in...

worth repowering? Single to twins on 258...

O.K., here I am. :D As I have posted many times, we purchased our 2002 Islander 270 new, with a single 250HP OX66. We put 465 hours on it in the first three seasons, and by that time we had been bitten by the offshore fishing bug. I had no issue going offshore with a single engine, but the...

Newbie in need of boat buying advice - considering Grady

Sailfish is a great boat and will certainly meet the needs you describe, as well as more as you develop further. However, the 9.5-ft beam will restrict your towing. The largest boat Grady built that could be trailered anywhere, anytime is the Islander. You can find a 268 or 270, with single...

looking for my first Grady White

We purchased our 2002 Islander 270 new in March 2002, with a single 250HP OX66. Repowered in Oct 2005 to twin F150s to improve our fuel efficiency sufficiently to fish 75nm offshore. Had 465 hours on the 250 when we repowered, and now have almost 1500 hours on the twins. Have several friends...

How do you dock your Sailfish..?

When you get the Sailfish go out to a quiet piece of water by yourself. Stop the boat and then try maneuvering using the engines and throttles only. We had a single on our Islander and repowered to twins. I can spin the boat in its own length, and you should be able to as well. Lose that...

    surprising handling characteristic 268 islander

We bought our 270 Islander new in March 2002 and it was powered with a single 250HP OX66. Handling was, at times, a bit challenging, and she would sometimes "chine walk" on one side or the other. When we repowered with twin F150s the handling improved significantly, and I attribute most of...

    Naked AND Skinny

I was with you until you went into dream land with your ideal... :-) When we repowered from a single 250HO OX66 to twins (in Oct 2005), I was very interested in the DF175 Suzis, but couldn't get any firm prices or availability, so went with the F150 Yamahas. We have over 1200 hours on them...

    new boat advise

Purchased our 2002 Islander new, with a single 250HP OX66. Extremely reliable power and adequate for fishing the lower Chesapeake Bay and close-in offshore. But we were introduced to pelagic fishing in 2004 and repowered in Nov 2005 to twin F150s. We had 465hrs on the OX66 when we traded it...

    Performance - 268 Islander

Not a direct comparison, but I'll provide some input anyway. :-) We purchased our 2002 Islander 270 new with a single 250HP OX66. Boat is rated at 500HP (more than the 268), and the 50% HP was marginal. We could cruise comfortably at 22-25kts, and top speed was just over 30knts, but the...

    Grady White Journey 258

We bought our Islander 270 new with a single 250HP OX66. After 465hrs, we repowered with twin F150s. We now have almost 1100hrs on the twins, and I think they are just fine - and our 270 is a bit bigger and heavier than a 258. As to the A/C, I don't think it was ever a factory option -...

    Grady Islander performance #'s

Islander 270 purchased new in March 2002 with single 250HP OX66. Put 465 hrs on it by Nov 2005, then repowered with twin F150's. The OX66 was strong, thirsty, reliable, loud, thirsty (yes).... Cruise at 4000RPM was about 22-24kts, getting about 1.2-1.3nmpg. WOT RPM was 5400-5500, at approx...
