    Transom Issues

Never had to make that decision, but I have to ask you if you could get this boat sold (with full disclosure of the issues), and into a new one that you would like as well as the Sailfish, for under $7k? If not, then a new transom makes sense, other than that theboat will be out of service for a...

    Pair of 225 yamahas

I don't think it would be vapor lock on those fuel-injected engines. Since they both did it, maybe something common to both. Could the fuel tank vent be clogged, causing fuel starvation? Do you have a main and an aux tank (that's the way my 282 is set up), or just one tank? If two, did you try...

    Great Grady Service

This is why I continue to buy Grady White boats, 4 of them, new and pre-pwned, for the last 22 years. And I will buy Grady again.

    Rubber stoppers

Some years ago, I found them at on-line websites for laboratory equipment supply.

    Rust from bow rail

Grady uses all 316 grade stainless, which has no magnetic properties and won't rust. But if a 304 grade screw got in the mix, that will do it. Check the hex-head set-screws in the fittings, and mounting screws, in the area of the rust stain. I'm wondering if something is inside the rail or stancion.

OX66 Shifting Problem (need some help)

David, when the shift cable is moved into forward or reverse (have someone slowly turn the prop with a deck brush as you shift), there really should not be enough force on the linkage to wear it out, unless there is another problem. I think the long tube that connects the linkage to the spline...

OX66 Shifting Problem (need some help)

To determine if the problem is binacle/shift cables, shift tube (which connects to the spline on the lower unit), or the gearcase itself, do this. Pull the clevis pin and lift off the shift cable linkage (in the engine pan). Now see if it shifts normally. If it does, the problem is probably the...

Buying 1995 272 Sailfish - Any Advice? & Wish Me Luck

Mike, congrats on your new (to you) Sailfish, and :welcome Like others, I am enjoying your tales of adventure and repair, , and am looking forward to you putting up lots of pics. (BTW, it's easy to do... put them on a free photo hosting site like photobucket.com, and then copy the...

    more confused then ever

My boat was originally equipped with a dedicated FF, GPS, and radar units. No networking. After using it that was for 3 - 4 seasons, I replaced everything with 2 Lowrance MFD's; an 8" and a 10". They each have a built-in GPS, but I also added an external GPS sensor to the network; and 24HD...

    Friend's 2002 Grady 282 - Stolen Ocean City, MD

The boat was found, but unfortunately, it has been stripped of all electronics, the engines, and who knows how much damage was done during that rampage. I hope the owner can be made whole, by his insurance. Something we all need to consider; do we have agreed value, of will the insurance policy...

What's the Best Way to Sell a Grady?

All good advice you got here. You didn't mention where you are located, but if it is in an area where the boating season is basically over until Spring, it will take longer, and sell lower, than when the warmer weather rolls around. Without knowing specifics, your price seems about right to...

    Sorry about the Spammers

Jeff, why not consider changing the forum rules just a bit (as a number of other forums have done), and require new members' first x number of posts be approved, before they show up on the board. Spammars will be a thing of the past.

    Boat selling question

Find out if the buyer's bank has a branch near your sister. That worked out with a boat I sold to a guy in N.J., so we went to that bank, and he had them issue a bank check to me, while I was there. They also witnessed and notarized a bill of sale, so the transaction was smooth, except he ripped...

    25' Grady White Sailfish 1993

Well Chris, inspect all the same things as you would on any boat of more than a few years old. Pull the deck hatches and look at the tamks for signs of corrosion and leakage. Look in the bilge for signs of neglect. Is it clean, and do the pumps (forward and aft) work? Is the hull badly oxidized...
