Gas Springs for Livewells & Elec. Boxes on 228G Seafarer

Re: springs Oh man... you ain't kidding. Countless times people would slam lids. :x Especially on my old 91 Gulfstream. It had 3 lids on the transom. 2 lids covering a long single box and 1 lid covering a smaller box. I couldn't really use the spring set-up on those, so I ended up...

    Disc Brake conversion

Yes... Imo, it can be done by your average "shade tree" mechanic. The toughest part is removing the original brake assembly from the axle, (4 or 5 bolts)... depending on how badly rusted/frozen they are. And, unfortunately... you have to replace the actuator with a disc version too. Different...

Power for an Off Shore 24.5 ft

Need nore info. What year is the boat?... bracket, notched transom, etc? Are you sure it's an "Offshore" model? Never heard of a "24.5" Offshore. The last year for the Offshore model was 1991, then it became the "Explorer", which ran up until 95. the Offshore and Explorer models had the...

    Tab pump location

Now that is funny. Like CJ said... the tab pump is small, relatively light and uses only 4 small screws on it's bracket. Compare that to the 20, (that's right... 20!) holes you'll be drilling in the transom. 6 per plane, 3 per actuator mount, and 1 big-a$$ thru hole each for the line...

Gas Springs for Livewells & Elec. Boxes on 228G Seafarer

Your welcome. Like I said, one of the draw backs with the support spring is, you have to be carefull not to accidentally jam the spring while closing the lid or hitting the spring while putting in and taking out items. Again... a bend or a kink and it's pretty much shot. Very difficult, if...

Gas Springs for Livewells & Elec. Boxes on 228G Seafarer

Re: Gas Springs for Livewells & Elec. Boxes on 228G Seaf If you go with a gas strut type of lift, you'll always have to use the latch to keep the lid down. With the support springs, you don't. I used these support springs for the lids on both fish box's, (copy and paste the entire link) -...

    Tab pump location

I think the "lag" time would be most noticible when the tabs are fully retracted. There'a no pressure in the system at that time, so the first time you go to use them, the pump has to pressure it up. The longer the lines, the longer the delay. Once they're in use, provided they're not fully...

    Bilge Pump Question

Imo this is a very good pump - http://www.rule-industries.com/products ... /index.htm Scroll down to bottom of page - RM1500. It's the larger, oval model. Fully automatic... has a "self contained" float switch. I installed one a few years ago. Works great. Don't know about your 02, but...

    Repowering a 1990 Offshorre 24

Re: offshore Idealy, you want to get as close as possible to the recomended max rpm's at full throttle. Throttle lever pegged, light to medium load, no tabs, engine trimmed up a bit and calm conditions. Again, thirty-eight mph sounds about right, but your rpm's should be around 5400-5600...

205 over nighter wash down pump

Yup... a cheapo live well set-up. Something you might expect to see on a smaller bass boat. Looks to me like the fitting on the outside came apart. Might have had a screen on it... like this - http://www.wholesalemarine.com/pc/T-H-A ... ainer.html I agree with what everyone else is...

    Repowering a 1990 Offshorre 24

Re: Offshore 24 Don't mean to split hairs here, but... if you check out the 1980 catalog - http://www.gradywhite.com/customer/catalogs/ you'll see the maximum hp rating is 280. They increased it to 300 in 1986. 14.25 x 19???... are you sure you didn't mean 14.25 x 15? Even with the...

    Repowering a 1990 Offshorre 24

I had an 85 with a Sea drive. Hp was around 205 and it was somewhat of a dog. Imo, 225 is a decent minimum for that hull. I can't imagine how poorly that boat ran with a 175 on it. The maximum hp rating for a 1980 24 Offshore is 280. I don't recall what year, (maybe early 90's?) but they...

Anyone install an Intermittent Windshield Wiper switch?

Excellent idea and a good question. I'll bet some high-end boats have them. The closest I've come, is to connect a momentary push button to feed wire, (off the existing wiper switch). I used the same type of switch as the horn button. Just swapped out one of the spares. Anytime there's some...

I am finding it hard to believe

A little off topic but... one thing that always bugged me about a lot of center consoles, (and yes... I've had a couple, lol) - why is the "leaning post" so popular? there's no where to sit, when fishing! You spend some serious time drifting or on anchor... how the hack are you supposed to...

Anybody gotten the new Raymarine S1000 Auto pilot?

I've installed a couple of these, and yes... they work great. Holds course very well, even in rough conditions. Also has many trolling patterns, in different sizes. The s1000 uses gps course over ground, (cog) info from either Raymarine's "Seatalk" or any nmea 0183, (which most gps units...

Transom mount or Thru hull mount for 226 Seafarer

Yes... it is possible to do a "Thru-hull" on your Seafarer. But, assuming you have the standard/supplied "transom-mount" ducer, you would need to buy/upgrade to a true "thru-hull" type transducer. This model - (link is only an example, you might find it cheaper elsewhere)...

Go here - http://www.bennetttrimtabs.com/catalog.php?vID=78 and click "video", (grey box on right) for installation instructions. Discussion about the bracket starts around 5 minutes and 30 seconds into the video. And yes... that's the only thing that's used to hold the pump. I've had plenty...

    Hydraulic Steering

The reservoir side of the system is vented... not the high pressure side. Same as a brake system on a trailer. If your losing any fluid, it won't be due to "evaporation".. it will be because of a leak.
