You know, now that you mentioned this... on the newer Grady factory hardtops, isn't there a downward slope already built into the top, (specifically for the radar)? The mount I installed was on an after market hard top.

What does your owners manual say?

My local Yamaha dealer told me to "never" run the motor without water, (either submerged or on ear muffs). Even if your only doing a compression test, (just cranking). I've heard it from plenty of others too. You'll also see it stated through-out the owners manual.

Actually, in the maintenance section of the Yamaha owners manual, under "storing outboard motor", it says - "Drain the remaining gasoline from the VST".
