    Question on thermostat Yamaha S150??

That's the "poppet valve". Yamaha actually calls it a "pressure control valve". Here's a link, (you can zoom in) - http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamah ... parts.html Replace all the related parts, (21 thru 25). 25 is the "bypass cover", (that broke). Don't know why it broke apart...

    208 - fuel ground wire

Ground is ground... negative on a battery or engine ground. Tank needs to be grounded for 1 - static control and 2 - fuel level gauge, (won't work without it).

Where is the water coming from???

Do you have inspection plates in the splash well area? If you do, it sounds like they are leaking, (not surprised). Imo, they're notorious for leaking. The sealing area needs to be kept clean and you may need to replace the O rings. You might even go so far as to remove all the screws and...

More VST tips and DIY humor

Just wanted to say thanks for the post BobP. I replaced the filter, O ring and strainer this past week end, and because of your info, the job turned out fine. Like you said, took about 45 minutes. There were a few tiny pieces of sediment on the filter screen, as well as the bottom of the...

Here's 2 styles. http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/st ... ogId=10001 Keep in mind, when they're not being used, (folded up) the metal brackets can catch your legs and hack you up. Would something like this work? - http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/st ... assNum=162 It's a...

    '85 Offshore without Trim tabs?

I can relate... it is a tough call. The newer 4 stroke makes the Offshore attractive and the newer hull makes the Seafarer attractice. :? Like I said, I did like the Offshore. Lots of fishing room and the heavy feel were a plus. But the pounding in a head sea and the rolling were...

    hydrolic streering leek

Assuming that you have Seastar, (Teleflex)... yes, you can get a seal kit for the steering cylinder. It's not unusual for the cylinders to leak after a few years. Parts list, (click on Seastar cylinder) - http://ww2.seastarsteering.com/REPLACE_ ... eplace.htm Your cylinder should have a...

    Help with frozen woodruff key

No... never tried heat. A little too close to the shaft seal for me. Only had to use the Dremmel method once. The chisel usually gets it out.

    '85 Offshore without Trim tabs?

As far as I know, trim tabs have always been an option. I bought a used 24 Offshore, (84 or 85, I forget).. no tabs. I installed them asap. Imo, every boat over 17' should have them. If it were me, I would go for the 2000 Seafarer. Don't get me wrong, I liked the Offshore, (larger hull, more...

    Help with frozen woodruff key

Good link Tuna Man. Pete, Try using a flat chisle. The extra size/weight makes a difference. If that doesn't work, get yourself a Dremmel grinding tool. Using a thin cutting disc, cut a slit length wise, (from top to bottom) in the center of the woodruff key, as deep as possible without...

    Bennet Tab Problem

Agree with hookup1... if your wiring, (all connections) and the switch itself checks out, probably a bad pump. First connection I would go after is the ground, (black wire from pump assy). Also, if using an inline fuse, (which is provided) I'd eliminate it and connect directly to your boats...

    Pulling Up Deck / 2002 228 Seafarer

That forward area may be ok on calm water, and a slight chop, but as soon as you start bounching around in even the slightest of rough seas, your gona lose contact with the water... and the signal. Not to mention while making turns too. The closer you keep it to the transom, the less chance of...

    Where does the water go?

The way I look at it is, a leaky fuel tank is a "failure" and should be dealt with when/if it happens. Allowing water to drain from any compartment should be automatic. Yes, I agree, the safest practice would be to keep it plugged and check/drain it occasionally. Keep in mind, on some models, to...

    Where does the water go?

Because I don't want any water to accumulate or be trapped in the tank compartment. I'd rather take my chances and ensure any water drains to the bilge, rather than stay trapped and possibly rot a bulk head away. I'm not suggesting this is the best thing to do... just what I do. If I ever...

    Where does the water go?

It's more for CG regs... fuel / oil spills. Bilge pumps are sealed and ignition proof.. so they shouldn't. Any loose wire connection might.

    Where does the water go?

Actually, it's the other way around. :) It's supposed to be plugged so in the event of a tank leak, it will contain the fuel in the compartment and prevent it from being accidentally pumped overboard by the bilge pump. Your supposed to "periodically" remove it to drain any water that...

    GPS Antenna Location

Imo, you should always use a mount for the radar. The larger the top, (T-top/hard top area) the higher the mount, so the radar's beam clears everything. I've always mounted satalite receivers, (gps, XM weather, Serius, etc) below the radar's path, either on the shortest stantion type mount...
