    Repairing deck hatches

Weird. The top of that bulkhead shouldn't be exposed. But... it WILL be softer further down - it just isn't as apparent. Gravity works :) The fix is to cutoff the white skin, replace the core, then glass the skin back on and add some tabbing. Or just start fresh with new glass and skip...

2005 Bimini 306 trim tab spray

It's not clear if you inspected when out of the water or not... or just a looksie from the topside?

    OX66 charging second battery

It sounds like you may have installed the 2nd charging lead from the motor incorrectly. The charging leads should either go directly to the batteries or be piggybacked on the posts on the back side of the battery switch to the #1 and #2 posts. If you can, it's preferable to go direct to the...

What to use AGM or wet cell batteries on a Yamaha 225 ox66

There's no question that AGM's are superior to regular LA in terms of vibration resistance, being better at supplying consistent voltage and longevity. That's well documented and proven. Those are facts. As we talked about a couple times, though, whether that's worth it to an end user when...

    OX66 charging second battery

No worries, Chinookie! Everyone starts somewhere with their "knowledge base"! As you're starting to figure out, it's a little confusing because there are multiple theories on the best way to use two batteries. And it really boils down to how they are set up for charging (one or two charging...

    OX66 charging second battery

To expand on this for Chinookie - the reason for this stems primarily on preserving battery life (in years) as long as possible. Yes, different types/model/age CAN be safely combined - but lifespan may be affected.

    OX66 charging second battery

But... to better state the answer to your question... connecting two 12V in parallel (even with different V) is done ALL the time and for MANY years. I'll take history's and personal experience's answer over internet stuff any day of the week! :)

    OX66 charging second battery

I don't see any info in the reddit thing. Skunk is not talking about it being a problem - just a waste of time given he has other means that work better for him.

    OX66 charging second battery

I'm not sure where that info came from about (2) 12V batteries of unequal voltage creating a fire if connected together in parallel. I suspect you either misinterpreted what you read or that what you read is simple internet gossip/lore. If you're still unsure, copy and paste what you read.

2005 Bimini 306 trim tab spray

Correct, it wouldn't be from a thru-hull ducer. Can you take a few pics and share them? It's hard to visualize how much you are talking about and whether or not it's normal. In the meantime, if you're sure it's from the tab, inspect it really close. There could be something snagged on it...

Bilge B Dry - SeaFlo Dry Bilge

Oh, good. I'm glad to hear that you at least have a box. It could be that it's the box/fittings that are leaking? Maybe try just filling it up while observing it - if you haven't already done so, of course. I can appreciate the want of a dry bilge!

Bilge B Dry - SeaFlo Dry Bilge

Kind of a side point/question here... MG, are you saying that the AC drain pan is plumbed directly to the bilge? I'm surprised that Grady does that instead of running it to a small, sealed sump box that then pumps directly overboard. Some other boat brands do that. Often the shower drain and...

    Repairing deck hatches

I wanted to clarify something regarding my last sentence in Post #2. A better way (clearer) to say what I did is that it's not "required" to let the core cure and THEN put the 1708 on - it depends largely on how confident you are that the core is in full contact with the hatch and will stay...

What to use AGM or wet cell batteries on a Yamaha 225 ox66

I didn't watch the video, but AGM's require MORE voltage. I don't know the charging ability/specs of the older 2-stroke charging system... but logically :) if it's good for regular LA, then it must be a lower charge rate? I always thought the 2-stroke charging system was not as adequate at...

    Repairing deck hatches

It wouldn't hurt (other than cost and added weight) to use 1708 between the core and the hatch - but it's truly not needed. I can understand that someone new to this type of thing would think the opposite - but it really isn't needed. The strength of a hatch is not so much from the thickness...

What to use AGM or wet cell batteries on a Yamaha 225 ox66

AGM's are nice - they resist vibration better and generally last longer than regular flooded batteries. But of course this comes at a cost and only the buyer can determine if it's worth it. SOME newer engines require AGM's because of the stability of the battery and because they can power more...

    Repairing deck hatches

The reason for the layer of glass between the core and the hatch is primarily because this is a "new" build and the entire hatch isn't beign done all at the same time. It's to take up any irregularities between the hatch and the core. Lightweight mat is all you really need. You don't need...

    WTB: Old Style Transom Eye

Yeah, it all comes down to how items are initially installed and/or the dreaded soft-core issues that have seemed to plague GW's for a while, now. I consistently lift boats much heavier than a 225 with no issues - so the eyes can handle it... it's the other variables that let us down :)

    WTB: Old Style Transom Eye

Oh, good! Suggestion... use a pipe cleaner and saturate the core with epoxy or poly - keep going till it no longer absorbs in. Ideally, drill the hole out about a 3/8" oversize, fill with epoxy/poly, then re-drill. But the pipe cleaner method is a pretty good option.

    WTB: Old Style Transom Eye

Ah, gotcha. You want to match that "shoulder". While you have it out... how's the transom core in that area?
