    Vhf speaker install

My faruno’s gps hasn’t been used. I used reference points along the shore along with its sounder to target fish. I picked up a Simrad Go 9 this fall so my primative fishing techniques may change. ;) I am looking forward to using its sidescan. It’s plotter should be a lot easier to understand and...

1985 208 Overnighter fuel tank dimensions

79gal? The factory tank was 65 gal at least for my ‘87 Overnighter. I had a tank made up by Patriot Marine. It is 60 gal so it drops right in without hassle and I do believe I have the schematics for it in the file folder. I’ll post it later today or tomorrow.

    Vhf speaker install

Fact is I don’t fish offshore, I have a 20’ boat. I’m not one of those indestructible guys that takes a cork to the mud hole or canyon. If the shore is to my left I’m going north, to my right south. The ocean East, land west. Don’t need a compass for that kind of fishing and if I did that’d be...

    Vhf speaker install

I think I’ve only used my compass once or twice for navigation maybe twice and that was in my prior boat so it’s there as more nautical decoration than anything else. Can’t write it off as it is back up for when the gps fails. My stereo speakers are shielded, you’d think Standard would do the...

    Vhf speaker install

Picked up an external speaker for my vhf. Easy to install in this spot, even have two bolts under it in the dash doing nothing that line up perfect with its mounting bracket. Looks good there, would hear it clearly there, and it’s even protected under the windshield but there’s just one problem...

    Question for Detailers

I started with the reversible snap on pads but switched to the Cyclo brand pads that attach with Velcro. The Velcro pads seem to last longer and they aren’t bad if you shop around. The last batch I bought on amazon. The most expensive part I found is the compound. I use 3M finishing compound...

    Question for Detailers

No no no ! A drill spins way too fast and will cause damage. If you new with it and serious about it look into the Cyclo buffer. It works great and you can not hurt the finish. It ain’t cheap though. $350-$400 by the time you buy the pads you need. What’s a detailer charge ? Pretty sure you will...

    Question for Detailers

Exactly. I use a Cyclo buffer and my hand ;) The machine works fantastic but buffing and waxing a boat isn’t as quick as doing a car and my torn shoulders remind me of that the next day. Also if you want a miracle polish that lasts all season good luck, and if you want a machine that makes it...

    Painting the deck ?

I went with the interdeck and it’s held up pretty well. I’ve gotten 6+ years out of it and though it still looks ok there are spots that say it needs to be redone. You don’t need to add grit to it, it has plenty. In fact if I have someone wearing surf shoes on the boat with black soles they...

    Re Power

Ya well that’s were I start reasoning that with all the work I have in it... Though I’m good now I didn’t come from money so I’ve still got a tough time spending it. If I’ve got to part with $15-16k for a new OB I’m good with that though.

    Re Power

I used to feel that way and mounted a “good used OB” I found on Craigslist a few years back and am still running it. Turned 60 this year and though I’ve built engines and repaired many making them reliable I’m kinda tired of the tinkering. No need to prove I can do it, just don’t want to...

    Buying a new polisher

Here’s a video showing the cyclo buffer. It’s not cheap at $360 but you pay for what you get.

    Shakespeare Mariner 8500 antenna

Ya, no sense going to the 8500 if what I have is a better antenna. I give the lower section a fresh coat of white epoxy and keep it. I may pick up another antenna to mount on a tower (30’) next to my house as I saved the eclipse plus from my Bayliner. The FCC says you can run a base vhf if your...

    Weight Distribution Hitch

My boat isn’t big enough to use it but my camper has a weight distributing hitch. Huge improvement in trailering as it pretty much eliminates that rocking horse action. If your boats big enough to do that on the road I’d get the WD hitch.

    Re Power

Probably because it’s big engine on a 20’ boat. The DT225 is 470lb.s which is probably 120lb.s heavier than the OB’s of the era my boat built. A 6 cylinder 4 stroke would be close to 600lb.s. The thing with the DT engines is that the cylinder walls are a chrome molybdenum that heats up at a...

Mcgill Rocker switches and Doxit Electrical Contact cleaner

Shark river has a low clearance R/R bridge, the channel and inlet is narrow. Barnegate can be rough and the channels leading to and out shift, are sketchy unless you run them a lot and are unforgiving. Manasquan is wide, maybe rough on an outgoing tide be easy otherwise. The MR R/R bridge sits...

Mcgill Rocker switches and Doxit Electrical Contact cleaner

I’d make a guess he’s in Point to have quick access to the ocean. If I had a choice between Barnegat , Shark River, and Manasquan Inlets I’d choose Manasquan too.

Mcgill Rocker switches and Doxit Electrical Contact cleaner

I used a Blue Sea panel I’m very happy with. I’m a little further north of Skunkboat in Farmingdale NJ. Btw thanks for the tip on deoxit. I can think of an immediate use for it being the 4&5 pin connectors oN trailer wiring. It’s almost impossible to keep them corrosion free and as good as CRC...

    1990 2o ft Overnighter

The trim around the edges of the transom has screws that need to be resealed from time to time as do the screws securing the hatch over the fuel tank. Transoms and that hatch are prone to getting “wet” from rainwater entertaining over time around those screws. If you don’t have a transom saver...
