    1992 Sailfish Tank Removal

empty as much gas as possible take notes of how the wood is laid out and remove remove the 50 G tank, pretty much straight forward remove main tank wiring and feed lines open the rear hatch in the aft bunk, remove the cover over the fill hose and remove the fill and vent lines (without this my...

Buying 1995 272 Sailfish - Any Advice? & Wish Me Luck

Wow, I'd never think aviation anything is cheaper than marine. If you're properly trimmed out and the plates are just under water I wouldn't bother lowering them. If they're buried sure raise them but a little low is better than too high (easier to vent in a tight turn or rough seas). 70...

What to look for in 22 Seafarer

The seller is always going to say the boat was meticulously maintained (occasionally it's true). The boat has potential to be a sweet deal but be prepared to walk. Look for signs that the boat was maintained and no water lines in the bilge. There are many things to look for that would be...

Oil Level Indictor Is it Working??

I can't verify at what level the "low level" alarm sounds but it is pretty low. There isn't an analog gauge like your gas tank, it's either happy or you better find some oil fast. That's why I make it a point to check the tanks before heading out and always have a gallon handy.

Replacing Seafarer 227 fish box drains?

I don't know, #2 may be my choice. Fixing the hole and rolling or spraying some gel isn't that bad. Cutting a hole in the stringer and hoping you can get to it is iffy plus If the stringer is wet it's a PIA to fix. You need another inspection port in the floor like another hole in your head...

Creating Gas Tank Compartment Drain? '85 Tourny

My Sailfish had the PVC drain connecting the two compartments but it was glassed over in the tank compartment.

Planning for the future: bilge pump sizes?

I'd say go BIG. If you can only fit an 800 up front use that but don't skimp out on the rear pumps(s). They will not keep you afloat forever but I'd want as much time as possible.

Oil Level Indictor Is it Working??

I've never heard of the level sensor going bad in either tank. You can unplug the remote tank harness and look for the indcators. I've never let my remote tanks run down low enough for the sensor to trip, but I know the level sesnor works on one motor. I had a kink in the line which ran the...

    360 Express 10 micron filters

Without cutting both filters open it's all guessing but there is either less room for the filter media or less room for water collection. With less media the pressure drop increases much faster as it filters and you'll loose flow capabilty. Will you ever clog the filter enough to notice it...

    Tigercat's Got A Leak!

I'd get 2 high level alarms. 2 bilge pumps might keep you afloat with a 3/4" hole but for how long? You shouldn't keep any valve open that's not currently being used. Open the discharge when need it, for the "flush", if the valve is too hard to get to, use a bucket of water.

New to site, question on carry on ac and 28 sailfish

The carry on AC units look OK on paper but if you aren't the one carrying it up front it's not going to end well. For a ballpark it's probably around $2K if you install an AC system and at least it was an option on the 28 so it shouldn't be that bad of an install. Then there is the redneck...

    AC icing up

A clogged water pump will cause a high head pressure situation, you'll loose efficiency and capacity (if it doesn't trip first). The icing is from low airflow or a low charge. Are the evaporator coils clean? If you don't run a filter all the junk in the air will settle on the coils and clog...

    1986 Seafarer 227: 5/6/14 Update - Stringer extension prep

Re: 1986 Seafarer 227 Repairs, Updates and Upgrades I'm not sure where they got the old weights from, my Sailfish is listed at 5300.

    1989 grady sailfish 2 96 yamaha 200 gas mileage

I have a '91 with '96 motors. I've gotten almost 2 MPG when in the bay (when the water is like glass) to maybe 1 (0.8 is probably more accurate) when it's rough off shore. Figure on a typical trip when fairly loaded 1.3 to 1.5 MPG.

    Outboard to I/O Conversion

I'm pretty sure they didn't have 200 HP OX's in 1996 but either way (carbed or inj) they are good motors. If it went down get the controls (and oil tanks), the cables will go bad usually at the worst time. You're looking at all new wiring, pumps, motors,... it's not an easy or cheap job but...

    1986 Seafarer 227: 5/6/14 Update - Stringer extension prep

Re: 1986 Seafarer 227 Repairs, Updates and Upgrades It's good to hear the motor run for the first time. Before you get too far, drop the I/O unit and check the seals. I'm helping a friend with a 470 in a Welcraft and he just about never dropped the unit. The seals for the shift lever were...

    Replacing 1983 Seafarer floor/gas tank

At last I heard plastic tanks didn't have baffels so the fuel sloshes around. The only positive for plastic is they're cheap, but a properly coated and maintained alumium tank will last a loooooong time.

    1986 Seafarer 227: 5/6/14 Update - Stringer extension prep

Re: 1986 Seafarer 227 Repairs, Updates and Upgrades If the rear bulkhead is that wet, there's a good chance water probaly go to the stringers too. The stringers along the tank seem to end at that bulkhead, is there another set of stringers next to the motor that go all the way up?
