    Yamaha Helm Master EX calibration?

I can sync the engines with the levers reasonably together. The slight discrepancy is when operating it in single lever mode.

    Yamaha Helm Master EX calibration?

I'm new to owning a boat with this digital steering system and using the HelmMaster joy stick so from that perspective, I've been out practicing with the system and it's not quite doing what I think it should be doing. For example, with all motion stopped and the boat still in the water, moving...

Access to Garmin 8616 SD CARD on my Fishermen 257 F

OK, I found the selection on the 8616 to turn off all transducers. Good to know and thanks for the tip.

Access to Garmin 8616 SD CARD on my Fishermen 257 F

I have a transom mounted GT56 transducer that I'm told needs to be in the water to keep it cool when it's on. It's my understanding that it can be turned off through the Garmin MFD but I drop the boat so that it's wet when I'm messing around with the nav electronics on my boat.

Access to Garmin 8616 SD CARD on my Fishermen 257 F

I downloaded the version 36.0 update on my desktop and put it on the SD card - way faster than trying to get it with my cell phone. I put the card in the adapter and then proceeded with the update from Active Captain. Worked like a charm, once I had a proper SD card.

Access to Garmin 8616 SD CARD on my Fishermen 257 F

The unit installed in my boat is the 8616xsv unit that comes with Navionics+ installed. Still it would have been nice to have included a 32G SD card with the delivery. They're only about $12 and it would have saved me some hassle when my GPSMAP told me it needed an update.

Access to Garmin 8616 SD CARD on my Fishermen 257 F

Same for my Freedom. It was installed in the partition behind the helm. I had to get down and lay on the deck to see it. It takes a maximum of a 32GB card which is a bit archaic - you don't find those in stores around here. I have a bunch of sports cameras and the smallest card I had was a...

    Boating after dark - options?

I'm looking for some advice on how to outfit for short stints out on the Chesapeake Bay in the dark. I've waded through most of what I can find on THT and other sites on radar choices but nearly all of those discussions I've found are centered around sport fishing, seeing birds, etc. Honestly...

    Hurricane season prep

There are several reasonably close by. It would be interesting to know if any of the boatels around here have suffered any damage during a hurricane or severe weather. I'm in a very protected little cove so I'm not too worried about wave action but definitely large surge has to be planned for...

Yeah, but, uh, they're not white....All the cool kids have the white digital control Yamahas.

    Hurricane season prep

The out piles are 12' off the dock piles so the slip is very large for my Freedom 275 at 8.5' wide. If the lift weren't there, I'd put lines fore and aft on the out piles with a lot of slack and then spring lines to keep it off the dock. I'm concerned that even if I bottom the lift I'll still...

    Hurricane season prep

We're coming in to season where bad weather can happen. We've been on the water for 25 years so we've seen the worst of it being Isabel with around 8' of storm surge. Back at that time I had a Sea Ray 330 Sundancer at the dock in the photo below with no lift. I just put a couple of spring...

    Dock box mounting options

I liked the solution suggested using wing nuts on carriage bolts that I went ahead with the dock installation. I replaced a total of four deck boards, two near the center for support, and one on each end for drilling and mounting. It's solid, cantilevered out of the way, and will be easy to...

    Shore power question:

Update and mystery solved: according to GW, since there's no other AC on the boat other than the battery charger, no provision was made to easily see an indication of shore power present. I'll probably not routinely plug it in to my shore power unless I'm leaving the boat on the lift for weeks...

    Shore power question:

It clearly states in the manual that with the battery switches off that it's still supplying power to the radio to save presets, etc. and of course the bilge pumps. To be clear, this is a brand new boat and I'm not seeing any depletion of the batteries between uses but was just advised that...

    Shore power question:

Yep, have the manual but it’s mounted in a place that I’d have to remove a sealed deck plate to see it. I appreciate all the responses and I thought this would be an easy answer I was just missing. I’m contacting Grady for their answer.

    Shore power question:

Yep, got all that and have reviewed. There’s nothing in there that I can find about an indication that shore power is present. There’s an indicator for reverse polarity but that’s it - unless I’m just missing it which is entirely possible.
