    Roughest Seas You’ve Endured - Seafarer 228?

I was in a 21 McKee craft with a Chrysler 100hp?, When the stream built up, I’d say 6-8 and once was enough that I’ll never forget. The entire run back we had a foot of water in the boat and slammed that boat so hard the console broke loose. 3-5 at Hillsboro was like glass after that day. This...

    Transom on 2007 Marlin

I am assuming this boat was kept in the water, correct? The work looks good and that is a LOT of work.

    Roughest Seas You’ve Endured - Seafarer 228?

Honestly i would be very concerned about falling out of the boat with that swell and period if the boat went to a beam sea. I prefer no more than 3-5 and no less than 12 sec and wind less than 15 knots. Thats for a 228. Anything more than that and you really are working the boat to manage the sea.

    Scupper access plate

268 islander. Starboard side just aft of tuna door. 8” round. Sealed wood edges with epoxy and then added a thru-bolted on screw access plate. I open it up when the boats on the trailer. Keeps the bilges/ boat bone dry. I replace the o ring every May.

New 1996 Grady White Islander 268 with twin 200 V6 Mercs

Looks good cleaned up! FYI I am about to replace that dead refrigerator with a set of drawers. That’s a common change. Also you have the same issue I have with the cloudy vinyl. The best product I have used so far is meguiars plast X. The vinyl reflects light on night runs and makes it difficult...

    Wheels locked on trailer

We store trailers on jack stands so the tires are about an inch off the ground. I kick the tires to rotate them at times just to break them free. We also place covers on the tires so just the bottom is exposed. This protects the rotors. This is when the boat(s) are not on the trailer.

Live well ball valve on a 228

Just a heads up, you may want to vacuum your bilge as I’ve had shavings and debris like that burn out my bilge pumps. The debris gets caught in the impeller. It’s always something!

Finally a Grady White owner and finally got her back home safely...

The prices we pay for the boats! Money and physical pain. I swear we are all crazy. I’m glad you made in to WA. Grady 228s are awesome for the west coast. You bought a good one.

Islander 268 - Anyone ever pulled forward gas tank

I did not replace the front tank. It’s holding well. The aux tank is actually ok also but I wanted to get the weight out of the boat. The bottom of the aux tank had corrosion but was still holding and no leaks. I’ll pull the main tank in the future but for now, I watch it, rinse it and drain the...

    The Walk Around Cuddy R.I.P.

Does anyone open the bow hatch on their walk arounds and climb out or cast standing from there? I do it all the time. It’s like a dual console but I can close it up and spend days going from island to island. Stove, stand up head and shower, rod lockers. The walk around will be back once the CC...

Upgrade to hydraulic or electric steering systems

Go with hydraulic steering for that year of engine, then get a auto pilot with a pump. Garmin and simrad make good ones with reputable backup. I prefer simrad.

Upgrade to hydraulic or electric steering systems

Hydraulic is easy to install but you must follow the directions carefully. Running the lines and filling the system is probably the toughest part. It’s not cheap. Single engines on high end mechanical no feedback systems are actually pretty good and require almost not maintenance. Is your boat...

Trailering GW 300 Marlin, 305 Express of 330 Express

This is the million dollar question. I think many of us have been in the same situation you are in. I owned a Marlin. I rebuilt and repowered. They are excellent boats. Probably the best outboard trolling platform/boat that I know of. Stable, dry, well shaded and didn’t wear you out after a day...

New 1996 Grady White Islander 268 with twin 200 V6 Mercs

Oh boy. Just looking at this thread scares me. I’ve redone three gradys and the islander was by far the toughest. I’ve had to stand on my head at times for hours. I’m not kidding. Keep going and plan it out well. Nice sketch. I think planning and doing things right the first time makes it...
