    Battery replacement

I would also get a new battery charger if you are getting a new battery set. Or at least check it. Also battery straps are good to replace since the factory ones almost always dry rot. I also highly recommend the blue seas ACR.

    Battery Charging: Marlin 280

I went through a couple battery chargers on my Marlin. I have the same battery configuration as you. I highly suggest this charger in the photo. All my battery and electronics have appreciated it. It’s a 30 amp, 3 bank.

Trailer options for a GW 228 Seafarer

Continental is a good value. I’ve had good luck with them. This one just went from Jacksonville to Reno to LA.

    Islander 26 Bait Tank

Did you ever do this install? I am about to install a 28 gallon tank on my 268. The pathway for both lines is easy. The intake like you said is straight from the pump. The drain line should be just lower than the bottom of the tank, but hopefully higher than the static water line. I’ve had this...

    DIY 282 Sailfish Transom Repair

Great thread and interesting method. I’m glad to see that aluminum brace in there. I’m not thrilled with dissimilar metals right next to each other. Ss bolts and washers on the aluminum angle. I’ve always wondered why Grady transom are thicker at the top holes than the bottom holes. It’s the...

First Outing in new to me 2003 Seafarer 228 - Heavy feeling stern - An Update

Thanks, that engine, two stroke and direct injection was very light and could run fast as hell. I think I hit 6200 rpm on it once. It was a great engine that eventually destroyed OMC. I miss that boat. I think you are in ok shape where your scuppers are. That Yamaha 225 of that year is heavy...

It finally happened. My new to me 270.

Maybe have a pin and sleeve system. Cut the posts above the base plates by a foot on all points. Then inner line it with a pipe and weld he pipe. Then you could slip the top and frame onto the smaller diameter pipe. Connect it with through pins.

Here is my 1992 228. Scupper just touching the water with a rude 225.

    228G, What do you think?

Don’t forget that you have to tinker in very small spaces. That’s a tough thing to do. I’d also get ready to replace the fuel tank no matter what. That’s more than tinker.

Her are some interior photos. Previous owner left bilge a mess and it’s a nightmare to clean. Working on it.

First Outing in new to me 2003 Seafarer 228 - Heavy feeling stern - An Update

It’s low but not terribly low. That’s a heavy engine. I would make sure your thru hulls, clamps and hoses are good. Your bilge is dry, thats a good sign. That year of boat was designed for a four stroke engine so its not like you put a heavier engine on it then it was designed for.

That port side looks lower than expected. It could be wind and tension on that line. We need better photos.

    B175m 1 kw install

It’s working perfectly. Best transducer I’ve ever had. It’s hooked up to a garmin 7606xsv. Clear as day from trolling to cruise. I am very happy. I’ve been learning how to control gain and use chirp. The first cost and install was tough but I’m set for now. Also, no leaks. The hole saw was new...

First Outing in new to me 2003 Seafarer 228 - Heavy feeling stern

What’s the engine size in length 25” or 30”? I almost always see engines mounted too low. I had a 228 with a 225 evinrude ficht and it’s the best riding boat I have ever owned, but it took some tab and getting the engine the right height.

    Cruising RPM's?

I cruise at 5000-5200 if it’s flat out. I don’t see this as increasing wear. I’ve done this with evinrude, Suzuki, tohatsu, and Yamaha. If you can go fast and burn the gas, why not. Also the engine typically run cooler when going faster. When I’m inside LA harbor and going from end to end, I’m...
