It finally happened. My new to me 270.

Ram seals just wear out if they are not exercised often. It’s an easy fix if you can get everything turning. The end cup wrench is a requirement and they come with the sea star rebuild kits. It sounds like you know about these since you mentioned the thread protection cap. I find that if I just...

It finally happened. My new to me 270.

Beautiful condition. The seats, the bolsters, the deck finish, the aluminum looks immaculate. That is a find. I had a leaking ram also and was able to get new sea star seals and end cups off Amazon very easily. Not sure what props you have but I consulted with Brian / ocanslr and went with the...

Marlin 300 vs Freedom 325 for fishing?

I had the pleasant experience of 40 miles in 4-6 swells at 9 sec. with wind driven white caps the entire time. Head sea and beam sea. The Marlin pushed through it at 2500 rpm and kept everyone dry. It’s a rough water boat with the 10 6 beam. Not sure about the freedom, but I had a lot of...

It finally happened. My new to me 270.

Excellent boat! Nice power. Fyi, I have a 268 and just installed this cover. LaPorte TTop and goes right over the f150s. Good fit, high quality and good price.

Whats it worth? Repowered 24' Offshore

Depends on the area of the country, the condition of the hull and the motors condition/ hours. 200 hours is nothing, so if it’s really clean then it’s like new, if the hull is in excellent shape, and everything works, then it could be worth a lot. I firmly believe condition is more important...

    Yamaha motor availability

I’ll be honest. Get a Suzuki. I’ve had both yams and Suzuki and neither has let me down. I work them hard also.

    Battery charger

Probably not if the charger is from 1996. Look up the charger model, probably deltek and then check. If you have new batteries, it would be a good idea to get a digital charger. Minn Kota work well.

    Sailfish 272 Outboards

It will work better than you expect. I have twin 4 cylinder 150 hp yamahas on my islander. It’s 26’11” long with a 8’6” beam. I can get up to 41-45 and cruise easily at 27-30. These 4 cylinders have a lot of grunt. Prop it well and it will work.

Repower to Suzuki 300’s need pros/cons

Regarding props, I agree with the enertias. Incredible bite. Also I have been impressed with power tech which I am currently running.

Repower to Suzuki 300’s need pros/cons

Skunk boat has some good information there. I went through this exact thing. Sea star has specific diagrams. See the image below. It has a figure 24 b that show the ram plate above the tiller. This was specifically for my engine year and HP. Check to see what is for Suzuki.

    Rub Rail for 282 Sailfish

Go with the old style. Black. It’s a LOT of work and is a muscle job. I did it once and never again.

    Worth keeping? 83 255 sailfish

This is a tough one. That’s a lot of boat for a 20 year old and is going to take a lot of time and money to get running. The transom is shot. The engines look to be around 1980-1985. They are cooked I bet also, may run now but are old and very thirsty. I honestly think it’s a good/ beat idea to...

Repower to Suzuki 300’s need pros/cons

Looks good. I just did a pair of Yamaha 150s on my islander. I have had Suzuki’s and they were really good, I only went with yamahas because if got left overs. One thing I have learned on any repower is that I always mount the engines too low the first time around. I can’t tell from the photo...

    Best boat trailering stories

I’ve had a tire go up in flames outside Florida city on a 17 whaler and then all the sudden a massive rain storm helped me put it out. It was a major rain storm from the glades. Replaced it in the rain and the boat smelled like smoke for a week. I bought a 27 Grady, towed it 5 miles to a hotel...

    new 4 stroke weights

I’ve been through this before, twice. Add weight as far aft on the swim platform with water filled 5 gallon buckets. See how much weight it takes to push the drain holes or scuppers down. The biggest factor for seeing how the hull will accommodate the weight, from my experience, is the beam of...

    B175m 1 kw install

Just installed a new thru hull transducer. 20 degree tilt. Very difficult to fit right between stringer and hull pocket on a 1999 islander. Less is more with sealant. I had to cut the spacer to get the threads exposed per instructions. Hopefully water will be clean and clear at this location. I...

    1999 Bimini 306 - replacing fuel tanks.

Make sure you have an air space under this new tanks. I have used heavy rubber strips similar to what Grady used. Air flow around the tank is key to keeping them in good shape.
