Newbie needs help please_FIRST boat- new vs. used GW?

If you have not been boating before maybe you could join a boat club for an initial period of time before buying your own. It is not cheap but cheaper than servicing your own boat with frequent impeller changes, propeller damage and so on. I think your choice of dual console is smart as it...

    Position on trailer

I think you do need to check the tongue weight. Extreme case is boat sits so far back the tongue weight is close to zero and can lift the rear of the vehicle in a bump....... too heavy a weight can lift front wheels off the ground........ Also check that axles are loaded about the same, are all...

    Fuel Gauge Always Reads Full

See all writing in my tank situation. I would though add that it may be you are not using enough fuel for it to react from the point that was set as full when calibrated last. It could have been calibrated for less fuel than full tank to show full. H

    Need Insurance Recommendation

I left Boat US after Grieco and rate insanity on a different boat. Current boat with State Farm together with most of the stuff, cars, motorcycles umbrella but not home where hurricane coverage drives rates insane. Also boat is agreed value while not expecting total loss but covered up to a...

    A little boater humility

Laughing at everybody's mistakes...... I go out on boat one day (kept on rack at marina so launched when I get there) get back later than they retrieve boats. Boats in water over night and I come back in the morning to go out again. Jump on board open the head compartment and wonder why all...

How are the fuel gauges wired??

Update; took off ground at battery (2 wires tied together) for fuel And cleaned and put back with checked good contact. CL7 shows full or alternatively just lines. Tank is recognized and shows 88%, so as correct Ab 20G used from full. My assumption now is that the calibration is such that it...

How are the fuel gauges wired??

I do agree it was all caused by me removing all batteries in order to get to the last one and check for water level and condition of it. When reconnecting I first ended up with battery 3 minus bus cable getting disconnected upon reinstallation. 2nd when that one was resolved I found out that...

How are the fuel gauges wired??

    1. The tank was full when I reset it. Have used 20G since then which does show up as used in Axiom. 2. Yes it must be a connection issue and I start to suspect the 2 wires that were loose from the house battery (impossible to visually see back there) may be that one should be to + while the...

How are the fuel gauges wired??

I seem to have a continuing issue with fuel gauges. First they did not work after removing and putting batteries back. Turned out to be ground wires not connected at battery. Now they only show tank full and does not move as fuel is consumed. I see the flow rates and total used but not showing...

Transom Rebuild - follow my journey

Does anyone know if this is a problem also on newer boats? I have a 2019 335 Freedom with triples and this would be a concern if it is an issue not addressed at all. H

    Engine woes...

One of the first things to always check is not only the kill switch BUT ALSO THAT IT IS IN NEUTRAL. I don't know how many times I've heard of the motor being in gear and therefore not starting. Mechanic comes in moves the levers / shifters and voila, motor starts. Guess how stupid the owners...

    GW Freedom 307 Marine Head

I never had a directional valve on my boats. Just a lock out valve for the macerator for use on lakes and inshore. On my current GW there is only the discharge valve into the sea that is closed except when emptying through macerator. The dockside emptying is just by vacuuming out. Mine does...

Looking for input on transom cracks

I once used some Git Rot on my dinghy transom. It is an epoxy product. I drilled a number of holes and filled them up so the product was supposed to penetrate the rotten areas and set so it all would become solid. It was of course a mini sized transom compared to the one in question and the...

    Twisted stainless anchor

This is a possibility I just wonder how it behaves retrieving it through the front when I now have a swivel that orients it almost always correctly. How much Force do the zip ties stand, can't be that much. I will call UMT in Ft Lauderdale tomorrow to find out what they can do. I'm "just" 60...

    Twisted stainless anchor

Thanks, both sound like good points. I do have the thingy to drop down around the chain to pull it out .The stupid thing this time was that it was not that deep, some 8 ft under engines. It was blowing so I could not see bottom and I was alone on boat w limited options for maneuvering.. h

    solar/inverter

Don't know specifics but in general: I assume your inverter is max 3000W or you need more than 4 golf cart batteries to feed it. the high wattage/consumption stuff work on AC but not off inverter, too much load. Also remember that inverters are usually marked with max value which is only for...
