Daves Trailer Sales and Venture Trailers WARNING!

Good point. Yes, they are pretty hefty. I had been thinking for a while that I would have the actuator welded to the frame to make it that much more difficult for someone to steal the boat by removing the actuator so I think you made another reason why I should do so.

Daves Trailer Sales and Venture Trailers WARNING!

Aside from the fitting issue and whose fault it is, I see no way that, that tongue is appropriately sized for that boat. I have a 272 Sailfish so essentially the same boat also on a triple axle trailer and this is the tongue. No comparison to the one in the pics. Twin I -Beams all the way to the...

Thanks. Headed to the plasic guy shortly. We'll see what materials he has in stock and what he recommends.

New Electronics in '97 Sailfish 272.

All done. Its actually going to fit with no modification to the deck above the console. I’m going to go to the plastic fabricator tomorrow and see what he can make. I’m thinking black acrylic to match the overhead console and what was originally there. Initially I thought I was going with a...

New Electronics in '97 Sailfish 272.

Small change in plans. I decided to move the ring terminal located on the battery for that unswitched power in the overhead console to the house battery switch. That will make that power switched on the house side. Then I located where those wire are running through the chase and up under the...

Thanks! I think I'll delete that and disconnect them from the battery. My vhf is not connected to them anyway. I understand the concept fo the radio always having power, kind of like a bilge pump, but I think I'll just keep it simple and keep the vhf connected to the switched fuse block.

New Electronics in '97 Sailfish 272.

I have a question. I was working in the overhead console thinking about deleting the fuse block that is up there and found something I don’t understand. There is a positive and negative going to the fuse block (P1 & G1) that is switched by the house bank switch, which makes sense but then there...

New Electronics in '97 Sailfish 272.

I hadn’t thought about the impact of the network device being powered off. I guess it could confuse the MFD. Also having the radome on the same circuit as the pumps is concerning as well. I keep my boat connected to shore power anytime its on the trailer at home so I really don’t need to worry...

New Electronics in '97 Sailfish 272.

I spoke with Garmin marine tech support and asked them about the power draw for the radome when not in use and weather the power should be switched. They confirmed that while the unit will not spin up until commanded to do so by the chart plotter, the radome would always draw power if connected...

New Electronics in '97 Sailfish 272.

The factory Furuno radar was installed with the radom switched. I read this was because the radome drew a lot of current and didn’t turn on and off with the head unit but was on anytime there was power. I'll do a little more digging and see how much the Garmin draws and if the radome can be...

New Electronics in '97 Sailfish 272.

I started my electronics install today doing a little here and there between Zoom calls. I think I got a lot accomplished given it was between calls but haven’t started modifying the dash yet so there’s not much to see. I got the radome mounted on the roof. Speaking to the Garmin guy at the boat...

55' of Grady White Beige 1-3/8 x 1/4 Flexible Vinyl Trim

Just FYI, the 55' roll arrived yesterday but it’s going to be a week or 2 before I get around to using what I need. I have a completely new electronics package arriving today and that install is going to take priority. After that is complete, I'll start with the trim work.

New Electronics in '97 Sailfish 272.

I did get the larger one, the 1243 XSV but I’m going to do whatever mods are necessary to get it installed in the dash directly in front of me at the helm, not to the side. I sat at the helm for a while and found it awkward to operate down and to the left. It’s going to be a very tight squeeze...

55' of Grady White Beige 1-3/8 x 1/4 Flexible Vinyl Trim

I just ordered the 55' creme. Once I get it I'll use what I need and let you know how much I have left. They are proud of thier shipping ($50) so hopefully shipping and processing time will be commensurate of the price.

55' of Grady White Beige 1-3/8 x 1/4 Flexible Vinyl Trim

The reason I ask is there are 2 colors to slect from on the website white and creme and the creme is available in 55' rolls.

Is that the white tape or the creme color?

New Electronics in '97 Sailfish 272.

Well they actually did have a pretty good deal at the Ft. Lauderdale boat show via The GPS Store. I was able to save over $500 vs the best online price I could find for the package of chartplotter, radar, transducer, fuel sensors and NMEA 2000 starter kit. I'll post installation pictures as I go.

Yea I made myself a little cardboard cutout and the 1243 looks like it will fit with the cutout you made above. I also made a cardboard cutout of the 943 and side beside the size difference is dramatic. One of my concerns was the clearance on the top. I looks like you were able to just squeeze...

Thanks for all the feedback. I hadn’t thought about the angled viewing being an issue so I'll definitely check out the screens with my Costas. I do spend 90% of my time at the helm and very rarely stand amidships to steer as I can’t reach the throttles from amidships and I find the helm seat...
