    Rub rail caps...

Closing this thread and keeping discussion of rub rail end caps in this one: https://www.greatgrady.com/threads/looking-to-buy-rub-rail-end-caps.29357/ edit: added finished pic. I didn't have the patience to take out all of the bigger scratches. But they look pretty good from a few feet away...

Looking to buy Rub Rail end caps

I updated the other thread this morning. Making some of these in my little metal shop - found a piece of stainless exhaust tubing at the metal scrap place. Not that easy for a new to TIG guy, but they seem to be coming out fine. I'll finish them tonight and post another pic...

    Auto pilot and connected main/kicker?

I used the Garmin TR-1 system on my kicker (Seafarer 226) and it was absolutely great. The pump is strong and you can tilt you main engine if that is convenient. I ran on that autopilot for a lot more hours than I did the main engine! The wireless key fob control is the best. You can be...

    Lowrance Autopilot Commissioning trouble...

I got everything installed and semi-operable (you can bring up the autopilot interface and use it to steer the boat), but I was never able to actually commission the autopilot feature. That is definitely on the list for this year. I need it to connect the dots and learn how to adhere to the GPS...

    Rub rail caps...

I know there is another thread about this topic, but I found this one first. I have started on my end caps project, so I thought I would follow up. They look like this compared to the old. These are not welded or polished yet, but they will be welded on the inside and I expect them to shine...

Thanks. That may or may not be a good thing, depending upon how they turn out. ;)

Looking to buy Rub Rail end caps

The ones that I plan to make will be from a ~3" piece of 2-2.5" stainless tube cut lengthwise and TIG welded to a backing plate. Once I get it figured out I will post and consider making more if anyone likes how they come out. No promises. :)

Looking to buy Rub Rail end caps

Nothing. I’m going to make some out of stainless tubing pretty soon. I’ll post when I get them going.

    How is this going, Brett??

2001 Sailfish Transom - How to Access for Rebuild?

If you do any of the floor panels, you’ll find the same thing. Very thin fiberglass and gelcoat layers. I had to go slower than I wanted to to avoid damaging cosmetically.

2001 Sailfish Transom - How to Access for Rebuild?

I took a better look look at it today, and I think I agree. I’m gonna have to cut out the back deck section as well but that’s probably a lot less work all told. I put on what I thought was a reasonable search for rub rail ends last summer and found nothing. If anyone comes across those that...

Question about outboard size for 306 Bimini

Yeah, Yamaha 4 strokes are all about the same weight from 225hp to 300. I have 3.3L 225s and if I went to 300hp pair I could drop as much as 40-50 lbs total.

2001 Sailfish Transom - How to Access for Rebuild?

Nice work. Very nice. I'm looking forward to this project for some strange reason... So, the question will be how are the two halves connected under the rub rail. Again, the idea of having the work mostly happen where it will be hidden greatly appeals to me, but there are almost certainly...

2001 Sailfish Transom - How to Access for Rebuild?

That looks really clean. And they left the edges in place so that it was probably easy to get the exact same shape. I watched some videos on transoms and one of the ideas that was pushed was to leave the outer layer of glass in place if possible. That looks good too though...

2001 Sailfish Transom - How to Access for Rebuild?

I'm talking about the floor line at the extreme rear of the cockpit. Mine has vinyl trim on it, and when I changed it out this year it was clear that there is a factory joint under there. From memory (questionable at best) it looked like it goes from the upper starboard side of the sea door to...

2001 Sailfish Transom - How to Access for Rebuild?

I was thinking that it is already in two sections everywhere except at the port gunwale ahead of the live well, so that would be the only "new" cut. I'm making the assumption that it's easier to work with the areas that they were joined at the factory than it would be to repair (nicely!) my own...

2001 Sailfish Transom - How to Access for Rebuild?

I'm going to be prepared do my '98 272 over the next few years too - doesn't need it yet, but that day may come. It looks like there is a factory joint / panel connection at the bottom of the panel that has the seat molded into it. I was thinking of cutting it loose there (under the vinyl trim...

    GW vinyl trim install question

I did it too. @Bayhouse has it right. Remove all traces of the old and clean with acetone or alcohol right before application of new. I found that "pushing" it a little bit into the inside corners and having moderate tension on the outsides worked well. I used a utility knife with a brand new...
