    Refit of 2002 282 - It begins

The time has come and my 2002 F225’s with almost 2300 hours are ready to give up the ghost. It was either buy a newer Marlin or refit our girl. Since they don’t make these anymore, and a Marlin is too much boat most of the time, the refit has been decided upon. We love the layout and it suits...

BOE Marine Electronics New GreatGrady sponsor

I’m actually having them price up a new Garmin GPS 8616 and a radar with install. I’ve decided on a refit of our much loved 282 and electronics are on the list along with 2 new Suzuki DF250AP’s. I just couldn’t see the value in buying a 10+ year old Marlin for what I’ll have in her and we love...

    Vinyl bang cap source

Repowering my 2002 Sailfish with Suzuki DF250AP’s in 2 weeks. I’ve done a lot of searching on here already and seeing various results on the bang cap replacement. I think vinyl will be the way to go. I dont know where I’d source the stainless and I worry about stress cracks if I glass over. I...

    [Not Mine] Bargain Marlin NJ

The motors look rough but wouldn’t say they need replaced. If they are sound you could just have them repainted as I did. They can easily go 3 or 4000 hours. I have 2200 on mine.

    Replacing Bomar hatch 282

I did exactly as you said here, and it’s bulletproof now. Took a little to get it just right but worth it. It poured a couple days later, monsoon, and it’s tight as can be.

F225 rough idle and low rpm

The bad coil is a theory I’ve had as well. Haven’t had the time to test it yet, this being said the bottom two plugs were gunkier than the rest. I assume oil sits in this area more so than other locations? My Yam mech (going purely by my description) said it sounded like I might have one...

F225 rough idle and low rpm

Update: I replaced the plugs, it ran perfect until it was hot coming down off plane. Chugging again. Albeit not as bad as with the old plugs. Smoke at low rpm and idle but at WOT it still rips.

F225 rough idle and low rpm

Update, it also appears to be running rich.

F225 rough idle and low rpm

2002 motors. 2200 hours. Ran the boat for a solid hour a couple weeks ago. Came down off plane to for a min and noticed stbd engine vibrating. Powere back up and fished all day but it seemed to vibrate intermittently until around 2200 RPM then ran fine Ran home 2 hours, coming down off plane...

    Replacing Bomar hatch 282

Replacing my old hatch with a new one. It was reseated once but now the gasket is shot and there is no replacement. Question, there is a foam strip in between the deck and the hatch. I don’t have a new one and don’t know what would be best aside from some weather stripping. Seems the profile...

I have it, I bought for my 02 282, and as you can imagine there’s plenty of extra. Where are you located?

Winterize 1998 272 fresh water line

I bypass the hot water heater, didn't use it this year, so i only hook it up if i plan on using it. Then I run the water till it's done, then pour in pink until it comes out of all the faucets, usually just a gallon or so. I have a 282 so i'm not sure about you, but if you have a windshield...

    Advice on a 282 Sailfish

Run them often, keep up with the maintenance, sitting idle is like cancer imo. They are happiest catching fish. Make sure you know where your gas is coming from and if it's a quality place, some marinas are sketchy, water in there is no bueno. I do run seafoam or the like through them once per...

    Advice on a 282 Sailfish

Ok, so here goes, 2002 282, same power, 2100 hours. I sleep on mine a few times a season, usually with my son, occasionally with a fishing buddy. We did a family of 4 a couple of times when the kids were really really little, not possible any longer. I am on the Chesapeake, it gets hot as hades...

    Dekit or SeaDeck

I tried this route, they refused and insisted on coming out to measure. They said if I wanted it I'd have to absolve them of any issues. Cost 3K to do the whole thing, pre-covid. I used Aquatraction.

Durable winter boat cover - 255 Freedom with hard top.

I have a fisher canvas cover for my 282, 5 years in and going strong. Granted Maryland winters have nothing on your area but it gets pummeled by storms all winter long and seems just fine. I try to make sure any pressure point is softened, towels over the rod holders, things like that. I think...

ok - this is silly ... cup holders question

Nothing beats an old school foam koozie, that's what I use, snug as bug. The newest yeti 12 oz can ones also fit in mine, but not quite as well as you tend to pull up both the can and the cupholder.
