    Islander Trailer Setup

From what I can tell, the boat is way aft on the trailer from normal. I would do as mentioned first, move the winch stand forward and then test it. I don't think tires on a dual axle full of air can make or break a sway issue. It should be a weight/balance issue. My first RoadKing trailer was...

New 1996 Grady White Islander 268 with twin 200 V6 Mercs

When I cleaned out my tank, flushed with water and heavy soap solution, rinsed again and again and no more fuel smell. Once it was clean, and I didnt smell any more fumes, I used a long vac hose and cleaned it out. Then put in alchohol to give it a final rinse and let it dry. No issues.

    Replacing cockpit floor drains

Regarding the pie plates screw in vs snap in...on my bracket model, it had 3 plates that were snap in. They all leaked and always had water in the bracket I had to drain. I installed the screw in types and have yet to drain any water out since. They do seal as they should since you can get them...

Resolved!!! Was: Need help… Update: Reverse P-Trap in the Head Discharge??? Was: Holding Tank Question

Nice work! Suggest if not already done to secure the top of that part so it does not get flopped around too much in the waves.

    Sharrow props

Maybe someday they will come down to a more affordable option. From the testing I have seen so far, they are game changers for sure! I do wonder though how many times they will get clogged up from trash or weeds, etc.

Hey BigJohn, I fish out of MHC.

    Hardtop paint-265Express

So in the professional industry, 2 part paints are used which do have a harder finish and generally last longer. This is what is usually sprayed on the huge yachts and mostly on boats during a full restoration. They cost more and are harder to apply. I have used the Interlux on my bow pulpit...

    Backing plate for planer rod?

The gunnels on my 252 are very thick and very strong. I do not have backup plates but used the largest washers that would fit. One if them if I recall I had to trim due to the angle of the holder in the way. I pull a 50w with a #6 to #8 planar and the stress is incredible, but no flexing or...

    Tools for cleaning the boat?

Like Dennis said, chemicals are the best method. I always remove tree sap with Mineral Sprits on a rag. then wash with soap/water and dry. If you keep your boat polished, you will need to repolish afterwards.

1997 Sailfish 272 Hull Side Rotten Core

I did some searching and found your restoration post steps. I am mainly interested in how you refinished your floor and what you used? If you did, any pics?

    Water Smells In Freshwater Tank:

FYI....regarding the amount of bleach to water for safe drinking (Which they say is for emergency purposes) would be 8 drops per fluid ounce, which comes out to about 1/2oz per 37 gallons. So the amount I put in is too much based on what I found today. That is with the 6% sodium hypochlorite...

    Water Smells In Freshwater Tank:

Just to add....It depends on what Grady was using 2 pints to 50 gallons for? If to flush, yes that is a very strong solution. If to drink, that would kill you! I just pour in about a cup or two in my 30 gallon to sanitize the tank, then rinse. Any strong solution is sufficient but does not need...

    Water Smells In Freshwater Tank:

I did some research a long while back and for normal water state during season, it was recommended to use 1.5oz bleach to 30 gallons. This is drinkable, but I would not do it. I just use water bottles to quench my thirst. The water has a very slight smell of bleach, much like the city water we...

Anyone mount a big amplifier in a Grady?

Installed my amp on the wall in the berth under the helm and to the left. Was easy to run the wires through the side panel directly up to the helm area. I have my house batteries also installed just behind the aft panel in this berth area so short wire run to the batteries.

    Scupper ball valve

Why not replace with the SS scuppers so they have less protrusion on the sides and more flush than those plastic one's?

Mounting Trolling Motor on a 255

It is so weird to see how much they flex when working. I passed up a boat coming in from offshore one day this season and thought that the trolling motor was going to break, but then it just flexed back and forth in the waves and current. I guess you don't see that if onboard the boat, but...

Islander 268 - Anyone ever pulled forward gas tank

I don't think cutting that bulkhead would be difficult? I would think you can just make the cut just wide enough to slide the tank aft, then replace the tank, then simply glass in the same piece you cut out with some epoxy and wet out some glass about 6" wider on each side of the cut and it...

    Wheels locked on trailer

Great advice on the above.....I always chock, then pull forward to release the pressure. You can feel when it pulls forward a few inches, then the brakes are free. Rinse well behind and through the wheels if possible to get all the salt out if using in saltwater. . Also, as I have found over...
