Anyone live in the Baltimore area? Looking at/would love opinions on possibly buying a GW 228 Seafarer.

Years ago when I bought a boat with Yamahas out of state I went here, https://yamahaoutboards.com/en-us/find-a-dealer?gclid=Cj0KCQjwtMCKBhDAARIsAG-2Eu_wZzZlKhqhtyaxGe5XgKGhMRVcVS65dk5bI0ObebdNFFviw29rUKoaAgjLEALw_wcB And then I called dealers until I found one that would allow a mechanic to...

New 1996 Grady White Islander 268 with twin 200 V6 Mercs

My boat had that same pushbutton breaker as the one next to your battery switch. Be sure to check it, I ended up replacing mine. Was sticky. Regarding your fuel tanks I can only tell you what I saw when I removed the then 25 year old tank out of my boat. The top had obvious pitting and a...

    Battery placement

You're welcome. I installed the Bennett electrics on my 208 and they are excellent. The install was painless as Bennetts instructions and templates are very clear and easy to understand. Highly recommend.

    1997 Grady 209 Escape

I'm surprised a northerner is considering a cc. That's a Florida boat all the way. That said, for boating with kids I would want a walk around so there's a place to nap or get out of the cold and there's room for a porta potti. Never been on a 209, is there room in the console for a porta potti?

New 1996 Grady White Islander 268 with twin 200 V6 Mercs

    8. After researching, I eventually, plan on pulling powerheads, removing the "sealed" metal cap, and sealing the top of the transom with fiberglass to prevent water intrusion. Big thumbs up for this one. And your game plan regarding the motors and hull sounds great.

New 1996 Grady White Islander 268 with twin 200 V6 Mercs

Has it been submerged due to a hurricane or is that just years of dirt? Looks like a great project, be sure to post pictures of your progress. Good luck!

    Looking at this Grady White

What is your budget for owning a boat? I ask because if you don't want more than 10 grand in a boat that one may not be the one for you. That motor might give you another five years or grenade tomorrow. So if you pull the trigger you need a plan and cash for the inevitable. And then the rest...

    Garmin Training

Years ago I went into a West Marine for something and stopped at the electronics display. Saw my same Garmin on display and asked the guy a question about it. He spent a bunch of time showing me things I had no idea about. You might call around and see if a local store has an electronics guru.

My Seafarer is wearing new clothes today

Just did my house last July. Termites are the devil. Nice gloss on that hull.

I don't but I'm with Halfhitch, just start taking it apart. If the threads are buggered it sounds like it will be readily apparent. If the boat is in the water lay down some towels so if you drop a part it may not bounce into the water

This thread may help, particularly post #10 and #15 and the video on #23 https://www.thehulltruth.com/boating-forum/191132-lewmar-windlass-clutch-trouble.html

1994 263 chase transom spray issue

I would have bet money that he needs a 25" lower but apparently not. Hopefully raising it a hole solves the spray problem.

Toe In or Toe Out for Twin Engine Applications

You can disconnect the tie bar and once you throw them in gear (forward) the loose motor will track the steered motor, even when turning. Adjust the bar and reconnect if it's safe to reach it while on plane, otherwise measure and reconnect in neutral.

A 30 second video of the lower unit while the boat is on plane would answer the questions.

    bunk guides

It was terrible. I felt badly for the guy. I don't know how he ended up getting it back on but I'm sure it wasn't pleasant. The other time I heard it happen, I was walking back to my boat after parking the truck. There was so much yelling between the guys involved we just got the hell out of...

    bunk guides

I've seen a boat laying on a ramp twice and both times it was a bunk trailer with bunk slicks. Once was at a double ramp and I was on my boat idling waiting for my buddy to park the truck. Guy next to me had a newer whaler with a nice Yamaha, the sound it made when that skeg hit and then the...
