motor hard to start, then quick burst of smoke

You should never need the primer bulbs to start the motors (at least not since some old, carved 2-strokes). But, they are great diagnostic tools in a couple situations, and this is one of them. The LPFPs on one of my HPDIs got so bad you could flood the motor while it was running by squeezing...

HELP Me choose the right Grady!!!!

We've always bought used boats, and would still do the same. My only concern with the older one would be the F225. Though I don't know the whole story, I know there were corrosion issues with the early models (Google it for more detail). We saved enough money buying an older boat in good...

motor hard to start, then quick burst of smoke

Do your primer bulbs get hard when you squeeze them? If not, that's another common symptom of failing low pressure fuel pumps (along with hard start, extra smoke, and sometimes failing idle).

    Radar dome or open array

It depends on your intentions. The open array costs a LOT more, is heavier and takes more space. But, you can getter longer range and more importantly, much better target separation. If you want to be looking for birds, the array is really the only way to go. If you want to just see other...

Yamaha Fuel Managment - how accurate

Mine are always within a gallon.

    Gulfstream fuel efficiency

I know it's a vastly different boat, but I have no trouble averaging over 2mpg with twin 200 HPDIs on my Chase 263.

    '88 228:keeping live bait live!

Mine was right in the middle of the transom, and I thought they all came with that. Is it possible yours has been removed? What occupies that space now?

    Fuel ball compresses

There is usually a small check-valve where the fuel line leaves the fuel tank (anti-siphon valve). The little ball inside is known to freeze up. It's pretty easy to replace, but even better to remove as many have done.

Bought a newer Seafarer today. Just needs new bulkhead

Ooops, I didn't mean to make it sound like that was MY work! It's just a thread I referenced when I was working on mine; though I agree it was great work.

I forgot I had saved this thread from when I did mine: viewtopic.php?t=6960 Lots of help there!

Bought a newer Seafarer today. Just needs new bulkhead

My cabin/helm wall was rotted at the bottom, and I suspect that's what you mean. I replaced it all with StarBoard just like JBrinch88's photo. It wasn't all that hard, and should last the life of the boat.

Threw hull or in hull Transducer

I have the B60 and it works great. One thing I did NOT like was the installer first out it too far outboard, and it picked up bubbles and foam from the chine at speed. He had to seal the hole (did a good job) and move it first her in; now I don't lose bottom at any speed. A shoot-thru wouldn't...

    bahama run questions

West End is the first spit of land you'll see on the crossing (in the Northern Bahamas, anyway). There's a yacht club and hotel and such, and it's a good place for a quick trip for fishing and such. Like any other place, it pays to be diligent. However, at least in the outer Bahamas, there is...

    bahama run questions

We've been to the Bahamas a number of times, though only once via our own boat. Like Smoky, we took it to Abaco after launching in Palm Beach. Personally, we would skip West End/Freeport/Lucaya and just push on further. That makes a long trip, though (6-8 hours at slow-mod cruise speed and with...

    ANTI SIPHON VALVE

Several boat mechanics I've talked say to "lose them" altogether. They've all said the little balls get stuck at times and cause fuel pressure issues that are hard to trace because they can be intermittent. There are already one-way valves at the squeeze ball, too.

    Gulfstream Windshield

We did just the opposite. I hated the distortion at the curved corners of my windshield. After I added a nice phone booth-style enclosure, I removed the windshield completely. Very happy!

What does everyone do for a living?

I own a small aviation company with a flight school, maintenance, fuel and hangars. Definitely not a 9-5 lifestyle!

    In the market.....help making decision

We love our 263 Chase. Lots of room, lots of seating, nice ride. We even get over 2mpg if I keep it below 3600 rpm (twin 200 HPDIs), and it carries 203 gallons. We also looked very hard at the newer 257 Advance with twin F150s. It has considerably less room (and presumably less "ride")...

    New Yamaha 200 vs E-tech 200

I'm actually surprised at the fuel burns on the Dusky. My Chase has similar dimensions and weight, but I get better mileage than that with my HPDIs (in "ideal" conditions 2.2 - 2.4 mpg). On a heavily-loaded trip to the Bahamas (200 gallons fuel, full water tank, five adults, one child, clothes...

    Is this enough trailer?

My 228G rode great on 3500-lb. axles; I wouldn't worry about the ride being bad with the 24.
