Usually they are mounted at the stern if you have secondary steer at the stern , if not up near your main motor controls as that where you will be steering from , where ever you are controlling the boat from is a good position, what kind of bracket did you mount your kicker on

go with an extra long shaft for sure , for the best control you want those high thrusts as deep as possible and as close to center as the main outboard will permit, that way when its windy you will have better control for turning both ways, to far to the edge you will have a hard time turning...

Have been looking for a good 228 hull/ hard top / pulpit. being picking . What state is the best one to search , any way other the internet and brokers ??? talk with owners about the sale.

double check its not thermostat causing the problem, when confirmed try using a piece of weed eater line and push it into the head after pulling off the rubber hose that feeds your water indicater then use a bit of air , Yamaha 9.9 kickers are very prone to this specially if they sit for a while
